BLOG TOUR

The Cad and The Co-Ed, an all-new romantic comedy from Penny Reid & L.H. Cosway is LIVE

thecadandco-edcover

THE CAD
Bryan Leech is a cad.
Or, he *was* a cad.
No one is quite certain.
Once the quintessential playboy, Bryan claims he’s done with wild parties and weekend benders. No more one night stands leading to mornings he can’t remember; no more binges and blackouts; no more exploits plastered all over the tabloids and rag sheets. According to Bryan, he’s cleaning up his act.
The only problem is, no one believes him.
THE CO-ED
Eilish Cassidy never thought she’d be a mother at nineteen or still in college at twenty-four. Cut off from every member of her family except her favorite cousin, she’s finally managed to put her life back together. Stronger and wiser, Eilish enters her last semester of university determined to stand on her own. Now she just needs to find an internship.
The only problem is, her best option—by far—places her directly in the path of her son’s father, and he doesn’t remember her at all.
THE PLAN
Bryan is determined to prove he’s changed. Eager to settle down with the right woman, he’s got his sights set on the gorgeous redhead who seems terribly familiar.
Eilish is determined to hide her secret. She’ll do anything to keep her child safe, even if that means ignoring her own wishes and desires.
But what happens when Bryan starts to remember? And what will it take for Bryan to convince the girl he forgot that she’s unforgettable?

SHANDA'S REVIEW 4.5 STARS

Eilish is a single mom finishing her last year of university and getting started on an internship. This lands her directly in the sites of her failed one night stand with Bryan the cad. Or is he still a cad….? It turns out Bryan is now a recovering alcoholic and is really a great guy. He is completely smitten with Eilish and can’t figure out why she is avoiding him. Eilish is trying to test the waters with Bryan to see if he has really changed and ready for responsibility. She is carrying a massive amount of guilt for keeping the secret. I personally felt it was understandable knowing how it all ended and Bryan’s issues.

I really liked these two. Even though it has been a couple of years Bryan is still adjusting to a sober life. He doesn’t know how to go about dating and his biggest concern is keeping his plant alive. I adored Bryan. I loved the fact that he was basically a crotchety old man in a 30 year old body. Eilish learns the man she idolized at 19 wasn’t the real Bryan due to his substance abuse. He was so sweet and fun. Eilish was sweet, stubborn, and a great mother. Her determination to do it all was admirable but frustrating to the men in her life. I loved Bryan’s reaction to their situation. He really grew up in the years they were apart. And he really understood how damage he would have caused if he had been around earlier.

I ate this book up. It was so much fun. It was sweet, funny, sexy, and heartwarming. It was a bit predictable and yes this story has been done before. The difference for me was the baggage that Eilish and Bryan had. They seemed very real and I liked how they worked through it. Plus, the combo of Cosway/Reid always makes the story fresh and amazing.

Bonus: If you loved Sean from the Player and the Pixie you are in for a treat. He is Eilish’s rock. He is hilarious. And I loved his relationship with Patrick. This was just an all-around feel good romance and it will leave a smile on your face. Well Done!

AMY'S REVIEW 4.5 STARS

While I've really enjoyed the previous books in this series, Eilish & Bryan's story just caught me more than the others. I think because they both worked so hard to get to the places they are now and it just hit home more for me than the previous books.

Eilish and Bryan hook up at Annie & Ronan's wedding; Eilish is floored that Bryan is interested in her. The next morning, Bryan has no recollection of the previous night due to drunkenness; Eilish is horrified and leaves. Several months later, she discovers she's pregnant, but doesn't inform Bryan since he doesn't remember it and doesn't think he'd want to be involved, nor does she want him to due to his alcoholism.

Flash-forward several years, Eilish is now working with the rugby team. She's managed to keep her son's parentage secret from everyone other than her cousin, Sean, who has been her rock for the last several years. She runs into Bryan and he's drawn to her, but doesn't know why. He's intrigued by her apparent dislike towards him. Bryan has worked hard the past to years to maintain his sobriety. Sean actually pushes Bryan to pursue Eilish, knowing that she still has strong feelings towards him.

Bryan and Eilish have intense chemistry, which they both fight. I'm glad that Eilish finally reveals the truth to Bryan. His response was wonderful, and he agrees that he wouldn't have been the best role model for his son. When he meets Patrick, he's instantly smitten with the boy. Eilish and Bryan don't have an easy road due to meddling family members and friends who try to control their situation and relationship. The interference nearly ruins the tentative relationship they've built.

I liked that both characters had flaws and weren't afraid to show them. I enjoyed that they confided things in each other instead of hiding their insecurities. Overall, I really quite enjoyed this story. If the authors continue the series, I'll definitely pick it up.

Review by Iza

I've been looking forward to reading this book after meeting Jordan in The Purest Hook, where the Preload band gives us insight into their pasts. Each and every member has his own demons, some worse than others.

Seems Jordan is among those with the worst demons. My heart broke for him, I got teary-eyed whenever he shared a bit of his childhood with us. You see, we don't get to know it all from the get-go. Everything is revealed step by step, and it always happens when triggered.

I don't want to reveal too much, but I will say that many times I wished to pull Jordan to my bosom and never let go. It's insane the things he had to go through. Yet there he was and he was perfect. Even in broken or jagged pieces, he was perfect. And real.

I'm a little unsure about my feelings toward the heroine. I admit she annoyed me a time or two because she was too stubborn and I felt that she sometimes let bad things happen, even though she knew better. I think that's what pissed me off. She wasn't ignorant.

But let's not dwell on that. Everyone should decide for themselves how they feel about the hero and heroine. As a whole, I liked them, though it felt like they fell for each other a bit fast. It felt a bit insta-love.

Anyway, I enjoyed this book, I really liked it and can't wait to read more! I love Ms. Cole's writing style and am looking forward to more books.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book. My rating is 4 stars.

Beard Mode - Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Beard Mode
Series: The Dixie Wardens Rejects MC Series #1
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: February 23, 2017
Cover Model: David Byers

Photographer: Michael Stokes

Aaron don’t ever call me Fatbaby’ Sims is lucky to be alive. Or at least that is what everyone keeps telling him. He doesn’t feel lucky, though.
He’s scarred, has more than a little bit of a bad attitude, and there isn’t a single day that goes by that he doesn’t wish his wife would’ve just finished off the job.
After being denied his old position at the fire department, he leaves, and doesn’t look back. He heads straight to Alabama and into the semi-welcoming arms of The Dixie Wardens MC. There he becomes a part of a brotherhood that forces him to get back in the land of the living.
---
Imogen is a smart girl. A girl who doesn’t always make the best decisions.
Her heart is in the right place when she walks into that prison, but it doesn’t take long for her to realize that her heart shouldn’t have had any say so in the matter. Especially when one wrong move lands her in the arms of a scarred man that looks frightening enough to scare any sane woman away.
Immediately enthralled by the angry man, she tries to get closer to him. But the harder she tries to get to know him, the further he pushes her away.
---
The only thing Aaron wanted to do after his now ex-wife was sent to jail was escape. Escape the awful memories. The pity-filled eyes. The curious glances.
He does a damn fine job at ensuring he draws as little as attention as possible, but then that annoying woman with her startling blue eyes starts hammering away at his resolve. Makes him feel when he doesn’t want to feel.
Imogen comes into his life and carves out a place for herself, obliterating his defenses one heated kiss at a time.
It doesn’t take long, and he realizes he’s in deep. Too deep to ever want to come out.
Imogen will know what it’s like to be loved by a reject.

Lani. Lani. Lani. You're killing me with each new book. I've been waiting for Aaron "Fatbaby" Sims book for a while now and you didn't disappoint.

After going through a horrific accident at the hands of his ex-wife, Aaron thinks he can only be seen for his scars. Both physical and emotional. Except, in walks Imogen. His feisty and cute neighbor, and acquaintance from the past, who is busy trying to make it in life and assisting in raising her nephew while her sister is deployed overseas.

I loved how Imogen never saw Aaron as a person with a scarring disfigurement. I mean she saw them, it couldn't be helped. But seeing them and not really noticing them are two different things. Which is just one of the things Aaron needed to heal his soul. These two had chemistry that could be felt and that makes for a great book. Well done, Lani. I give it 5 stars.

“New guy.”  Someone muttered behind me.
I turned only my head to find Stone, the president, staring at me with hard eyes.
“Yeah?” I asked him, dropping my bag on the floor and heading in his direction instead of out the door like I’d originally intended.
“You’re here because you have a special set of skills that we need.”  The leader of the band of misfits, Stone, drawled.
I nearly laughed.
“That sounds like a bad line out of a movie.” I muttered, wondering where he was going with this.
He tossed me a glare and then yelled.
“Truth!”  Stone yelled.  “Ghost! Get the fuck in here!”
Ghost and Truth walked in the door at the same time, both of them turning to the side to walk inside, and stared at Stone
“Ghost, hold Truth down so New Guy can give him the fuckin’ shot.” Stone grumbled.
Ghost tackled Truth and wrestled him to the desk, then sat on him while Stone leaned back and watched.
“No, motherfucker!” Truth yelled.  “I don’t want it!”
“It’s the fuckin’ flu shot, you dumb shit.  Not a fuckin’ tracking device. Take a fuckin’ chill pill.”  Stone grumbled, staring at the scuffle that was going down in front of him.
I picked up the syringe from the table, similar to the one I’d given everybody else’s flu shot with, and stabbed it in the meat of Truth’s arm.
Truth bellowed in rage, and I flipped the guard up on the syringe before tossing it into the trash can.
“Done?” I asked Stone.  “I have to get to work.”
Stone nodded.
“Yeah, thanks.” He nodded. “Have fun at the nut house.”
I grunted something unintelligible, causing him to laugh.
“Don’t sound so excited.” He laughed.
I flipped him off and walked out the door just as Ghost was letting Truth up
“Why you gotta be such a big motherfucker?”  Truth growled.  “If you’d been anyone else, I’d have gotten away.”
“Why do you think I called Ghost instead of anyone else?”  I heard Stone reply.

Black Hearts is the story of Violet and Vicente. They are the offspring of characters from the Artists Trilogy and Dirty Angels series.

Vicente stumbles on info about his father Javier’s past. Javier is determined that Vicente (his second in command) will soon take over the cartel. Vicente is not really into the idea of taking over. After uncovering old letters he decides he wants to know more about his father. He sets off for California in search of Ellie and his father’s secrets. He changes his plans when he discovers Ellie’s daughter Violet.

Violet seems like she is at that stage of life where she is discovering herself. She is also suspicious of her parents and ends up uncovering a secret about their past. Along the way she meets Vicente and he shakes things up. He is sexy and intriguing and they fall for each other fast.

I found Violet to be a bit petulant. I give her some slack because she is young and searching. But she gets really angry about her parent’s secrets and acts out. Yes, Camden and Ellie should have revealed some truths earlier. But parents don’t have to share all their dirty pasts. I get the impression their relationship with their kids isn’t that strong. Violet also could have sat them down and asked them questions. Instead she hooks up with a guy just as secretive and then lashes out at her mom in anger. I had trouble understanding her. Vicente appears to be nothing like his father. He seems to want a different life but his motives confused me at times.

I wanted to love this one but it was just okay for me. I think it was predictable and probably a bit generic. It has a lot of what readers will love; sex, lies, secrets, cartels, insta-love, and Javier setting up trouble in the background. I have high hopes for the finale Dirty Souls. You already know Javier has something planned that is going to hurt Vicente. Will Vicente turn out to be a better man than his father or the same? Will there be a big showdown between the families in the end? We shall see…….

*3.5 stars*

I was so excited when I found out Halle was writing this but now I feel so-so about it. If you've read The Artists Trilogy and the Dirty Angels series then you already know exactly who Violet McQueen and Vicente Bernal are. They are the children of Camden & Ellie and Javier & Luisa, respectively. But they're all grown up now. This story is set in San Francisco in the year 2034 or so. I liked Halle's interpretation of current events on the future (the wall between the U.S. and Mexico was half built and abandoned). But for those who don't like politics in their romance novels, don't worry she doesn't overdo it.

Vicente wants to know more about his father. He found a box filled with all things Ellie Watt and he's curious about who she was to him. Javier is now living a quieter life in Mexico now that he's no longer number one drug Lord. Vicente was always raised to take over, however, so he wants some time to have fun in America. Why not spend it in San Francisco and look up Ellie as well.

Violet is a photography student. She still lives at home. Camden is running Sins and Needles and Ellie is an accomplished photographer. Turns out they've hidden everything about their past from their children (Violet has a half-brother, Ben). One day Violet snoops through the mail and catches her parents in a lie.

Vicente decides to go through Violet to meet Ellie. The two connect right off the bat and their passion only grows as the weeks pass.

I was so disappointed with Ellie and Camden in this book. I didn't know who these people were. All these years later, they're still paranoid. They came off as weak. I didn't like all the secrets they were still keeping from their grown children. Especially when the truth would have at least put them on high alert. Ellie and Camden knew something was off. I thought Violet was kind of bratty. She was ignoring red flags and putting herself in dangerous situations. I also hated how Vicente treated Ellie. I really hope he gets knocked down a peg. I have high hopes the mama bear in Ellie gets awakened in book two. I'm looking forward to the showdown.

Reviews - Preston's Honor by Mia Sherdian

SYNOPSIS

There were two brothers—identical twins—and though I loved them both, my soul belonged to only one.

Annalia Del Valle has loved Preston Sawyer all her life. The daughter of an impoverished migrant farmworker, she grew up as an outcast in what was no more than a tiny, cooped up shack in California’s Central Valley. But her heart found freedom in the land, in the wide-open spaces of Sawyer Farm, and in the boys who were her only friends.

Preston has yearned for Annalia since he was a boy. But a sense of honor kept him from pursuing her until he’s unable to hold back any longer and their worlds—and bodies—collide one hot summer night. A night that sets off a chain of events that will alter their lives forever.

Now Annalia is back in town after disappearing without a trace for six long months. Determined to reclaim her heart, her life, and the baby she left behind—the son who was created in a moment of lust and love and pent-up yearning.

Preston has survived grief, a ravaging drought, and the despair of heartache, but he’s not sure he can survive Annalia again. And he might be unwilling to try. Will pride and bitterness keep him from the one thing he’s always longed for?

How do you heal what is irreparably broken? How do you forgive that which is unforgivable? How do you discover that real honor comes not from circumstance, but from the place deep in our hearts where truth resides? And how do you move beyond the wounds of the past to discover that some loves are as solid as the ground beneath your feet, and as enduring as the earth itself?

THIS IS A STAND-ALONE SIGN OF LOVE NOVEL, INSPIRED BY GEMINI. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Annalia Del Valle is a dreamer. The daughter of a migrant farm worker Lia wants to leave the impoverished life she has for bigger things. All Preston has ever wanted was Annalia and his farm.

Lia’s mother worked on the Preston brother’s farm. Although her mother changed jobs Lia’s friendship continued with the twins Cole and Preston. These three grew up together and they all cared deeply for each other. The boys didn’t see the differences they had but Lia knew they were from different worlds.

Cole and Preston both care for Lia. When she is old enough to date they have to decide who gets her. Cole cares for Lia but not to the extent that Preston does. Lia and Preston have loved each other for years but have never communicated it to each other. They cause a lot of hurt and pain by not speaking their truth to each other sooner. it finally comes to a head and they can’t deny it any longer. Their moment of passion changes their world dramatically by two events: one beautiful and one tragic.

I adored Lia. Although this story is the sign of Gemini with the twins Cole and Preston; this story was really Lia’s journey. One of my favorite things about a Mia Sheridan book is she writes heartbreaking heroes. In this story the person that touched my soul with her story of childhood to adulthood was Annalia. My heart hurt for the loneliness and rejection she felt growing up. Then at a young age she becomes a mother and enters a hostile home. Her love story with Preston never got to fully develop and she feels lost. You could feel her isolation and fear. I liked how Lia issues were handled and understood why she had to leave for those six months. The story did drag a bit in some places. It did lack some romance but this was because of how things played out for these two. As I stated I felt this was Lia’s journey so it’s not heavy on romance.

4.25 stars

Preston has adored the impoverished Annalia (Lia) since he first set eyes on her when they were children. We know from the prologue that Preston and Lia have a child together; what we don't know is what caused their separation.

We get a lot of back story with Preston and Lia; how they first met, how their friendship and ultimately, how their love story developed. Their story isn't an easy one; Lia suffers with feeling inadequate due to her poverty and the way she's been seen by her mother since her birth. Preston feels a sense of honor, being bound by a promise to his brother, and his attraction to Lia is pushing his limits and his honorable intentions.

When Preston and Lia finally decide to hash out their rift, it's cathartic, not only for them but for the reader as well. We get into why Lia ran and why Preston didn't pursue Lia more, when that have saved them both a lot of heart ache. I enjoy that they decided to fight for each other, instead of letting hurt feelings get in the way. The epilogue is sweet, and exactly what I love to see in an epilogue. I love getting those little glimpses into the future.
