River Rock, Vermont, 2011. This is the story of Claire Ryan and Evan Lang. 35-year-old Claire joins a local book club for romance readers in order to get over the breakdown of her 10-year relationship, there she meets book shop owner Evan, a dominant man who has never recovered from the sudden death of his submissive wife. As their relationship develops and they embark on the path of Claire's submission, it becomes harder and harder for Evan to keep his emotional distance. Claire is open and responsive and he wants her badly, but refuses to let himself go. As Claire falls deeper in love with Evan, she realises that he is holding back and decides to end their relationship, forcing Evan to confront his own past and his feelings in order to save his new love.

I haven't read much BDSM books but the ones that I have read were either great, good, or eehhh *tilts hand back and forth*. Awakening is most definitely a GREAT book. It focuses more into the psychological and emotional side of BDSM instead of the standard wham bam, flog, whip, cuff you blindfolded to the bed rough sex. It's not about a sexy middle aged billionaire who meets a young troubled woman who he takes back to his place to tortue and afflict pain in a secret room. You will not see a "Room of Pain" or hardcore, scary BDSM toys.
Instead you will see two people who teaches each other about healing and moving on. There is some BDSM play; nothing hardcore but still very intriguing. Awakening is more about learning the deeper meaning of being a Dom and a Sub. It let's one know that it's more about just some hardcore kinky time in the bedroom or club.
To me it's a great "Cherry Popper" for the virgins out there that has no clue about this wonderful, exotic and disciplined lifestyle.
