Title: Hawke (Cold Fury, Book #5)
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: March 15, 2016
Synopsis:
The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

Hawke by Sawyer Bennett is the second chance love story of Hawke and Vale. Hawke and Vale fell in love while in College and were inseparable. They break up when Vale ends things with Hawke but never tells him why.
The two are reunited when Vale is hired by Cold Fury. Vale has moved her father to try and experimental medical treatment. Hawke is surprised at how much he is still hurt over Vale leaving him. This was a big problem for me in the story. When you learn why Vale broke it off it was frustrating. She admits that her choice at the time was made out of immaturity. What bothered me is for most of the story she refuses to tell Hawke why. It was like pulling teeth for him to get the truth out of her.
I did really like Hawke. He really cared about Vale and her father and helped her through her fathers illness. It was clear they still loved each other very much. But sadly Vale kept her secrets too long and it made it hard to like her or connect to her.
I have really enjoyed the Cold Fury series but this wasn't my favorite.
