Book #3 in the Black Lotus Series.
I've come to learn there is no escaping your past.
It doesn't matter what you do, it will follow like a phantom--haunting you--reminding you.
**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only as some scenes may be particularly disturbing.**
REVIEWS
This book starts off where book 2 ends. Elizabeth and Declan are in Scotland and they're doing a bit of healing. Elizabeth is trying to figure out who she is now that she doesn't have her revenge and no longer needs Nina.
I have to say, without Nina, Elizabeth loses her balls a bit, and I found her rather whiny and emotional. Let's just say there's lots of crying. In the beginning I felt it was "normal', but after awhile it just got annoying. I wanted that strong spirited woman back!!
Declan was as bossy as ever and every chance he got, he would tie her arms behind her back... really? Is that all you have anymore?? Give us something new D! It just got a little redundant, I expected more out of his bossy arse.
As for the case of Lachlan and his mysterious phone calls and whether he was trustworthy, well let's just say those involved got what they deserved and he may be the only character I actually liked.
Another thing I was disappointed in was Isla. I REALLY thought she would play a larger role in this book. Just as things were getting good and they were making plans to go visit her, and Declan does something very sweet and symbolic (this was another favorite part of mine), things don't turn out the way you think they will (as really should be expected).
To me, this is where the story should have stopped. But, it didn't. I would have respected that ending, but then comes the epilogue. I can't even really tell you how I felt after I read it. I kind of wish I hadn't. I felt very unsatisfied and left wanting, and to be honest, it made me feel like I wasted a bunch of time. I can see how people may have thought that that was the ultimate HEA, but the actual ending left me a little in shock and kind of scratching my head. All I can really say, as so long as EK is happy with it, that's really all that matters, I guess.
So, all in all, I think the book stays in line with the series as it has that dark poetic feel to it, but it left me a bit dazed and unsatisfied. I give it a 2.5*
I've devoured and loved the first two books, Bang and Echo. I also devoured this book, trying to get to the conclusion. But as I write this, I'm confused about how I feel with the end of this series. I think I'm a bit underwhelmed.
Elizabeth and Declan cling to each other and keep moving forward in their relationship, but Elizabeth is still hiding things from Declan, which was a bit frustrating.
There were a few plot lines that really made go "huh, what?". I was disappointed in Isla's "role" in this book, I though it would have been more. The dressing room switcheroo left me scratching my head. And the "mystery person" was a little too convenient and out in left field for me.
While we do get closure on most of the open issues, that are a few strings left dangling. And honestly, the epilogue has left me quite befuddled.
