I watch.
I study.
I prowl.
I hunt.
I always go in with a plan. A set of rules for myself. I don’t take unnecessary risks. That’s how I’ve been able to evade capture all these years.
But there’s something about this girl that is different than the others. When I finally meet her, the rules become a blur. And I break the most important one of all—I take her with me.
——-
It’s just my imagination—that feeling of being watched. That those icy eyes— a vivid turquoise with a distinct golden fleck—aren’t watching me.
It’s just stress. I am the person everyone relies on. Maybe that’s why I haven’t been feeling so content with my life lately. Why I dream those eyes belong to someone who can tear me away from all of my responsibilities.
But these are just shameful fantasies, never meant to breach reality.
Then one night, the dream comes true, only it’s a horrific nightmare.
Now, I only have one task: survival.

I feel like I need to shower after reading and liking this book so much. Seriously, this book made me feel so dirty, especially with as much as I enjoyed it.
From the beginning we know that Sam is not a good man; we see his depravity and his darkness. But there's something about him that just draws us into his story. Sam sees Vesper at a grocery store, caring for her younger, disabled brother; he is drawn to her beauty and her kindness.
Vesper is the quintessential good girl on the outside. She has a loving boyfriend and seems to have everything going for her. She the primary caretaker for her disabled brother, Johnny, since her mother is too busy out traveling the world to care for her own son. While Vesper seems to have more than most people would wish for, she craves something else....something darker and dirtier.
Vesper's life is altered when Sam kidnaps her and decides that she is going to be his. Their story isn't easy or beautiful; it's quite the opposite. But as she gets to know Sam, Vesper sees things that no one else ever has: his longing to be accepted for who he is. Sam's upbringing wasn't easy; his mother's coddling and "protection" of him have led him down this dark path, at least in my opinion. We see what has led him to this path and we start to understand him a bit better.
Does this book have triggers......absolutely! So if you have trigger issues, then this book isn't for you, at all.
This book is dark; this book is dirty; and I loved every single second of it.
