Tour Stop Alec, Slater Brothers series by L.A. Casey

Alec by L.A. Casey
(Slater Brothers #2)
Publication date: August 17th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis

Keela Daley is the black sheep of her family. She has always come second to her younger cousin Micah. Even in the eyes of her mother, Micah shone bright, and Keela faded to black. Now, in adulthood, Micah is a bride-to-be and the spotlight is solely on her. Keela is a low priority…or so she thinks.

Alec Slater is a bachelor, never one to bed the same woman, or man, twice. He is a free agent who does what he pleases and answers to no one; that is until a fiery Irish redhead with a temper to match her hair colour knocks him on his arse. Literally.

She hates to admit it, but Keela needs a favour from the cocky Slater brother, a huge favour. She needs him to not only escort her to Micah’s wedding, but to also pose as her boyfriend. Alec agrees to help Keela, but has certain conditions for her to abide by. He wants her body and plans to have it before anyone can say I do.

What he doesn’t plan on is losing his heart as well as the possibility of losing his family when someone from his past threatens his future.

Alec owns Keela, and what Alec owns, Alec keeps.

Review

I would say this is a 3.5 stars. The beginning was a little rough for me. There were so many details in the actions of the character that it seemed a little much. I would say that stopped at around 48% give or take and the story really takes off.

All our favorite characters, *cough* Kane *cough* are back. Bronaugh seems to have dialed the anger down and the brothers are as silly as ever.

Alec and Keela light up the pages with their wit and banter. There's plots at every turn and the book is full of feels. My new, second, favorite character is Storm, Keela's "guard dog", aka, a giant and lazy German Shepard. His and Keela's as Best friend have a pretty funny " rivalry".

I like the sense of humor in this book, while some of the h's sarcasm comes of a little harsh, she is still funny. I think L.A.'s writing has come a long way and I REALLY cannot wait for Kane's book!! Because my poor baby is sick and needs to go to the doc! ;) I'm excited to see what L.A. will do next

Review

Imagine waking up in Vegas, hung over as hell with a hot guy taking care of you. Dream come true, huh? Maybe for everyone else but that's not the case with Evelyn. She went to Vegas with her best friend to have a great time, yes, but she didn't plan on marrying a total stranger. One that happens to be the guitar player in a famous rock band. Evelyn doesn't even like rock music.
But things change as she gets to know her husband - after he stops being a jerk, of course, though I did fall in love with David Ferris from the first scene - and she decides to give him, them a try.
All's well until David's skeletons from the closet decide to join in on the fun and mess up everything. Secrets are a big no-no and David learns that the hard way.
This isn't the first time I've read this book. I think it's my third time and it won't be the last. Each and every time I fall for it all over again; for David, who happened to be my favorite until that asshole Jimmy came along and changed himself and dethroned his little brother. But that happens later because in this one, he's an ass then a reformed one.
Mal is a riot, always was and always will be, while Ben's a mystery.
No, this book isn't smut. It's not nonstop sex or orgies. But that doesn't really matter because the story, in itself, is pretty damn awesome, the characters get under your skin - i.e. Jimmy - and they stay with you, long after you've finished reading the book.

Five stars. I highly recommend it because it has the rock star lifestyle, love, funny scenes and hot ones too. And this book is just the beginning.

Blurb

They’re not your traditional highlanders.

Rafe Gordon, Laird of Nairn, is searching for release from the nightmare of his wife’s passing. When Elsie, his daughter’s new governess, brings with her the temptation of passion and a less-than-perfect-past, Rafe must decide if love truly can conquer all.

Innes Gordon is looking for a good time. When that good time turns out to be the childhood-friend-turned-kept-woman Catriona, he finds himself torn between claiming her ‘til death do us part’ or simply sharing her with his twin.

Hamish Gordon is seeking a woman all his own. While his family’s home is invaded with nuptial ceremonies, Hamish is sent to patrol his older brother’s hunting grounds in search of a thief. Discovering his prey yields the biggest surprise — and Athdara needs his help as much as he needs hers.

Excerpt

He wondered if this ‘wisp of a woman was the thief or merely a lookout to the band of thieves operating in the Nairn woods. These hunting grounds were under his brother, Lord Rafe’s control, and the local magistrate had reported thieves attacking travelers along the main road. When the message arrived weeks prior, Hamish found the perfect excuse to skip his brother Innes and new sister-in-law Catriona’s wedding celebrations. If nothing else, someone had to ensure their lands weren’t being used as a hideout.
“Are you from here, ‘wisp?” He attempted to keep his voice low, not wanting to scare this creature away. He’d always been gifted at calming those around him, especially a person or animal possessing a skittish nature.
She stood on the shore, and he noticed the fine quality of the boots on her feet. Indeed, the lass was more than she seemed. “Aye. Are you, warrior?”
Her voice, sweet and melodic, called to him, made him want to command her to his side. The fact she’d called him the same nickname his mother bestowed him with as a wee lad also bore on his soul.
“I’m brother to the man who’s responsible for these lands, the dirt under your feet, the water I stand in. I have questions for you if you’d speak with me.”
“I would answer.” Her response came with a slow perusal of his body. He followed her gaze as it traversed his length, no maiden blushes or shyness. Her frank appraisal spiked his interest threefold.
“If you’ll allow me to come to shore and dress…” His words trailed off as she toed off her boots.
“No need. I’ll come to you, warrior.”
He went still at her blatant offer. “That’s not necessary.”
Her hand moved to the buttons on her vest, and his heart pounded against his rib cage as each one fell loose of its moorings.
“Aye, it’s necessary. For I seek to view you as you are. I’ve watched afar too long.”

Review

This is my second Amy Harmon book. The first was Making Faces, which has made it onto my top-ten-faves list. So of course I gave Infinity + One a try too!
The story of Bonnie & Clyde is something we all know about, we've heard this and that, songs and movies have immortalized the two as notorious criminals that lived hard and died young. But not everyone stops to think about them as people, as two persons that met and fell in love with each other and, even though they were riding hard on the wild side, they were together. They were in love. They had each other and didn't care about anything else.

"They were young, wild, and in love, with little regard for anything but each other."

Infinity + One is only loosely based on Bonnie & Clyde's story, but the premise, the base is still the foundation. They too met and rode away together, only to experience certain things and fall in love. Difference was that Infinity + One is set in the 21st century and Bonnie is a well-known singer.
Being as I've read Making Faces, I wasn't expecting unicorns and rainbows from this story. It's not a light, fluffy read. It makes you ponder on this and that, even though, well, there were certain scenes that were sort of unbelievable, it still didn't take anything away from the story.
Bonnie was a girl that went through too many things and being manipulated by her grandmother, she couldn't properly live her life the way she should have, she couldn't cry and mourn, and grieve or stop to take care of an issue because the only thing that counted was that she had to sing. Lemme tell you, there were instances I wanted to throttle the grandmother. Old hag.

Now, Clyde. Finn. Infinity James Clyde. Oh Lord. I have to admit, the fact that he's big and blond also swayed me into reading the book. What can I say, I like my guys big, blond and badass. Finn was all that, plus a genius. You see, he was good at Math. Really good. And even though I'm totally on the wrong page with Math - and anything that's not related to arts and stuff - I would still sit and listen to him talk about Math being related to this and that, and his numbers and whatever. I would have sat and sighed, and swooned and peacefully fallen asleep with my head on his lap. Gotta love a badass geek!

All in all, aside from the few less-than-believable scenes, the moments that I wanted to hurt the grandmother - if you'll read the book, you'll see exactly why, what she did was cruel - I really liked it. I give it 4 stars and I recommend it to anyone because, in my opinion, what Amy Harmon writes is not just one specific style and for a specific reader.

"I don't want any of that... but I do want you." *sa-woon people*

The need to settle down, to find that missing piece, for the all-consuming love, was never Drew’s plan. He’d spent the better part of a decade suppressing all memory of love, of life. He told himself he had the essentials; the impressive apartment, the successful club, the simple uncomplicated life he’d worked so hard to create. All he needed. Until Mia.

She entered his life like wildfire, burning through his world and destroying all pretences of simplicity, bringing out everything he’d fought to deny.

Longing. Warmth. Love.

She made him want it all but Amelia lived in the darkness. It had always been her constant, yet terrifying companion. A shadow she'd never been able to out run and one fateful night, it finally consumed her. Shattering both their worlds and burying them deeper in the dark.

~Drew~

I turn on the shower on full strength, the fog filling the room within seconds as I gingerly take off my jacket, discarding it on the tiled floor of my bathroom. I remove my shirt and tie, the fabric sticking to the cold sweat I’ve been harbouring for what feels like days. I kick of my shoes and socks, tossing my belt along with my trousers on the pile and step into the scorching heat.
The burn is instant, my skin turning pink with the force but the pain that should have greeted me is just a distant memory, I still feel naught. I start to scrub at my skin, harder and harder, trying to erase the numb deprecating feeling that's over taking me. Until every inch of my body looks raw but still I feel naught, just a vague memory of what should be there. I give up, again, and shut off the shower.
The silence that follows almost deafening but I continue to stand there, with no will to move. The fog has long gone and my body is covered with goose bumps when I finally bend to scoop up my discarded clothes. I entertain the idea of burning them, watching the flames engulf the rancid memories attached to them but I stop mid thought when my foot makes contact with a sharp edged card on the way out and my heart skips a beat, slowly starting to gain speed as the significance comes to the surface.
