Review

First, I want to thank a friend for loaning this to me because it not only got me out a funk - nothing seemed to keep me interested enough - but it also made me a believer of the MC genre once again.

Rock had me falling for him fast. Hope too. I often can't read a book because of the heroine, but it wasn't the case here. Hope has the backbone to stand up to Rock, even though she's insanely attracted to him. There was, however, one factor I had no idea how it would be solved. Hope was married.

Now, my friend immediately told me this and she also said, "Give it a chance, you'll see." So I did. And I saw.

I won't give away anything, but yes, Hope and Rock do end up getting a HEA. Or, at least, the start of it because this is only book 1. Book 2 will be out soon, thank God!

And, as usual, I fall for other characters, as well. You know them, the side characters that tease us with this and that, but we won't get their stories soon? Yup. Wrath. That big bad blonde is right up my alley and I won't be getting his book in the near future. Boo.

But, 5 stars, for sure because Rock is so damn sweet and he's only a little bit asshole-ish, not a major, uber jerk. Nope. He's the big bad Prez with the MC but a teddy bear with Hope. I was a goner as soon as I started it.

I highly recommend it and will keep up with the series because, really, I need more Wrath.

Excerpts

1.

“I’m not worried about tomorrow. I’m worried about right now, with you, under this Christmas tree.” Blake supported her neck as he laid her on the floor.
Livia turned her head. “You’d better convince me. So far you’ve talked about the dog going to the bathroom, trash, and dirtiness.”
Blake kissed her jaw and turned her head gently, kissing her mouth as she bit her lips together.
“Can’t I just convince you with my manly ways?” He wiggled his eyebrows.
He could, of course, do just that—but she shook her head. She loved the playful sparkle in his green eyes. His five o’clock shadow just made him more handsome, framing his kissable lips with scruff.
“Okay.” He put his fingers at the bottom of her shirt, lifting it gently so he could circle her belly button with his index finger. “You’re the sexiest, most beautiful woman on this planet. So sexy, in fact, that I had to have you. I had to make you bear my children because my universe and yours had to be combined. Everything I’ve ever been needed to be buried inside of you, so deep, so full of love that we created life. Twice.”
He lifted her shirt and kissed the tops of her breasts, whispering his devotion into her skin. “And it’s never enough. Unless I can hear you coming, I can’t think of anything else. All day every day. For years now. You’re that powerful, Livia. This. Us. It’s so intense that years haven’t cured me. I can’t stop wanting to make love to you.”
“Wow.” Livia smiled and pulled his face back to hers, kissing him and effectively stopping his beautiful words.

2.

“Come with me.” He led her to the beach again, but during dinner a few people had been busy. It was now lined with an aisle of candles, and a man stood close to the breaking surf, hands crossed, waiting. Someone had used the surrounding sand as a canvas, creating a swirling pattern. Their names were part of the art.
What? She asked without a sound.
“I want you to marry me. Here. Now.”
Beckett let go of her hand and strode away. When he turned around, close to the water at the end of the aisle, he hoped to hell she wasn’t running in the other direction.

Review

"Our goal is this and only this: Saving Poughkeepsie."

 Man, oh, man!

I'm still reeling from all the things that happened, that went down in this book. Ms Anastasia needs to give me a lot of hugs - she even offered her bosom to me - because I'm left empty. Drained up. I got teary-eyed, I laughed and melted. Not to mention, chewed on my nails because there were quite some angsty scenes.

So, Beckett and Eve are happy together but it can easily be taken away from them because Rodolfo Vitullo, the man whose daughter Eve killed in Return to Poughkeepsie, wants Eve for a very sick plan of his. Of course he doesn't succeed because Eve is just that badass, but nobody knows the old bastard finds another way to getting what he wants. And he comes this close to succeeding in that one.

Poughkeepsie becomes safe again, slowly but surely. It becomes a safe haven for misfits, just like in Maryland - Beckett realized ruling with an iron fist and putting the fear into people wasn't the way to go, so he tried with loyalty.

There's a peaceful period, after some things that went down - I either teared-up because of the aw-moments or because of the sad ones, but nonetheless, tear up, I did - and then everything blows up.

I can't even explain all of this, without giving something away. Every detail is important, everything they do. Beckett, once again, places everyone else above himself. That man is something unbelievable and he's a thousand kinds of amazing! I'll only say this, that bastard has a romantic side that turned me to mush. He evolved and changed so much, throughout the series. All of them did, but I think this change is most noticeable at him because he rose from the drug lord and pimp ruler, to the pseudo-saint that wants what's best for his family and his people. Just you read and see for yourself.

I knew reading this book would be bittersweet. I knew it. I was also lucky enough to read an early copy of it, for which I will be forever grateful! This series is different, it combines so many things, friendship, family, deep bonds that do not need blood to be created and kept. It's just wow and awesome.

5 +++ stars. I'll be rereading this series many times because I'll miss these characters. I may not have met them, back when the very first book was published, I may be a recent fan, but I do know that I fell and I fell hard. There's no going back now.

P.S. It may be the end of an era, but it's the beginning of a new one.

P.P.S. My dream came true, in the epilogue. Technically, before that. Read it and maybe you'll figure it out.

 Review

I've always been a fan of vampires. Ever since I was a kid. If I remember correctly, my very first vampire movies were Interview with the Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula. So, I have Anne to thank for my love of vampires.

I've read almost all of the vampire books she wrote and, while I didn't love all of them - some I just liked or enjoyed - it's still an all-time favorite series, that I used to sneak-read while in class, keeping the books under my desk.

I love Lestat, I do but Marius is one of my absolute favorite characters ever created. And, as I was reading the books and saw that Blood and Gold was about Marius' life - the parts that were not told in Lestat's book and The Queen of the Damned - I immediately got my hands on the paperback and read it. Savored every page, every word written. My favorite part was where he had met Botticelli. He's one of my favorite artists, so encountering him in the book, seeing how much Marius cared about him... Let's just say, it was pretty awesome.

I've read and reread this book a few times, and each and every time it was amazing. If I were to have the possibility of meeting and sitting down, even for an hour, with a supernatural being, I'd definitely choose Marius. I'd have the perfect partner to discuss Ancient literature with. So, I do highly recommend it for the fans, the readers that want more than just to read a book, any book. This is not one you just flip through.

5 stars and more.

Here are some fan-arts I've found of Marius.

Excerpt #1
A small gasp fell from my lips as his fingers kissed the paper-thin skin. His eyes held me hostage. The golden brown was now a swirling bronze, raging with the same demanding hunger I knew reflected in mine.
“This sort of reminds me of the forest,” I whispered. “The trees around us—no one else.” My words fell like petals, waiting for Jethro to crush them beneath his glossy shoe.
But…he didn’t.
Tracing one hand from my wrist, along the inside of my arm, and right to my throat, he fisted my ponytail. With intensity that stripped my soul to the very essence of who I was, he pulled my head back slowly, sensually, full of sexual power.
His eyes dropped to my mouth. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Ms. Weaver.”
I panted, my neck straining against his hold, but I made no move to break the poignant awareness.
“You won that night, but I lied when I said it pissed me off.” His mouth dropped, his tongue licked my bottom lip with the barest of grazes.

Excerpt #2
My stomach churned with the promise.
I will make him love me.
My conviction wasn’t flimsy or half-hearted.
And then I’ll destroy him.

Excerpt #3
And, if I was honest, they’d transformed me into the same kind of creature. Someone who had evolved from a single dimension and now lived with so many avenues of personalities.
I was still the quiet, vertigo-stricken girl from London, but I was also the woman who liked being tormented, who thrived on a fight, and who thirsted for sex.
And that stupefied me.

Reviews

First Debt (Indebted, #2)First Debt by Pepper Winters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow. Where to start?

It picks up right where book one left off, Nila running through the woods, nekkid. If you read book 1, then you know the agreement. Nila tries hard, real hard, but... ((Squirrel is a traitor!))

Now she's brought back to Hawksridge, still as a captive and now must go through her first debt. She keeps trying to thaw out Jet to make him see that this is, wrong. One minute it's working, then the next it's not. This man gives me whiplash. You think you have him figured out and he goes and does something else.

Now we have a added conundrum, Kes the younger brother. In this web of lies and mind games you're trying to sort out what's real and what's false, and in the end, you still don't really know. Is Jethrow playing her or is he trying to be sincere? Same as Kes.. we just don't know. In the end, its a very "bum, bum, bum" moment *cue cheesy mystery music*

Its left my head reeling with a lot of unanswered questions, in a good way of course, cuz it means I'll come back for book 3 like a greedy little Weaver Whore.

I give this book 4+ diamonds

First Debt (Indebted, #2)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book of the Indebted series. It picks up immediately where book one ends. Nila is on the run from Jethro. Neither can seem to get a bead on the other.
I didn't trust Jethro. At all. This was a battle. Every time we touched, licked, and eventually fucked, it would be war. And only one victor would come out alive. I have every intention of winning.

Book one kinda left me thinking WTF is going on. I seriously had no idea. This book is still very mysterious, but the reader is given several tidbits along the way that help to fill in some of the blanks. We discover some of the reasons for the debt between the families, but still have much more to learn. And we have the first of the "collections" take place.
"Then it's time for payment. Today is your First Debt, Ms. Weaver. The Debt Inheritance has begun."

Things don't exactly go as planned. Feelings come in to play. But at the end of the day, nothing changes the facts.
"How will you live with yourself when my blood pours over your perfect shoes?"

This series is full of words that have symbolic meanings and connections. I feel like there is a puzzle to be solved, a secret riddle inside. On the surface it's definitely a battle of wills, but not the battle one would think. Learning more about the Hawks, makes me wonder who is really the one in control. Will Nila have enough time to figure it out and save herself, or is already too late?

We would keep on ruining each other. We would keep on desecrating debts and vows. And we would keep on fucking up our future until nothing but horror remained.

I liked Debt Inheritance, but First Debt is quite a bit better in my opinion. The storyline is better. I felt more of an attachment—less vague, more personal feeling. This definitely left me wanting more, and I will absolutely continue with the next read as soon as it's available.

4.5 stars
