In every story in my life, I seem to end up playing the villain—and I’ve got the scars to prove it.

That role works fine for me, because I’m sure as hell not anyone’s hero.

I run my life and my empire with an iron fist—until she knocks my tightly controlled world off its axis.

She’s nobody’s damsel in distress, but I can’t help but want to save her anyway.

I guess we’re about to find out if there’s a hero buried … beneath these scars.

He loves me, and he doesn’t even know my real name.

The limelight that follows him could expose everything I’m hiding. But even knowing the risks, I can’t force myself to stay away.

I’m going to break his heart, but mine will shatter right along with it.

Will we lose it all when I reveal what’s beneath this mask?

I’ve always known she was too good for me, but that never stopped me from wanting her.

And then I finally had her for one night.

A night I don’t remember.

I figured I’d blown my shot.

But now she’s walked back into my life, and this time, I have the upper hand. I want my second chance.

Will she be able to see the man beneath this ink?

I was raised on the streets, so I know things are rarely as simple as they appear—especially this rich girl showing up at my pawnshop demanding a job.

She’s the most tempting thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ll be damned if I can make her leave.

Shit just got complicated … but when it comes to her—I want complicated.

We’re both fighting our own demons, and our only chance at a future is to let go of the past.

But will we be strong enough to break free from beneath these chains?

A warrior Ailouros, half cat, whose sheer existence has been kept secret by a special ability no one can know exists, she is closed off and trusts no one. It's getting better and better, I swear!

As the story line progresses, things get more and more complicated, major things are about to go down, but nobody knows who, what, where and how.

Jax, the big bad Guardian that used to keep a harem to satisfy his needs - the male warriors need sex to replenish their energies and not get weak - falls and falls hard for a woman that's more feral and pretty wild.

Ileana has lived alone and in the shadows her entire life. She only had one goal: revenge. So, the last thing she wanted or needed was to stumble upon her mate when she was trying to collect information on her enemy.

Except, her enemy was the Guardians' enemy, as well.

So, one common goal, a mating frenzy thrown into the mix and things go crazy.

Plus, there's a twist I was NOT expecting! Actually, two. One of them just means this series is nowhere near its end - thank God, I really love these characters!

The other, well, I'm not a believer of that one but of course I'll just keep on reading.

4.5 stars. Copy received from NetGalley.

Hoo boy!

I love where the story is headed!

The series is evolving, growing into something major and I just know book seven will have a lot of awesomeness in it!

But in this one, Bastian gets his mate, an Immortal with a past as dark as his. And a twin sister, to boot. The twin sister plays a pretty important part in this story, in the entirety of it, as a matter of fact.

So, Apollo's escaped and he wants Natasha and Nastia. Bastian will never let that happen. Plus, Drake's growling and fuming, up and down, about capturing Apollo. Especially after his screw-up.

Drake. That Guardian stole the show for me and became a fave of mine. The fact that Delia is his mate isn't making me jump up and down with joy, but I'm sure the author has her reasons for making that happen.

Plus, new and unknown characters pop in - literally - and things will escalate because the Guardians have to pull out the big guns. Book seven will be epic, I'm telling you!

I have to say, in this one, the hot scenes kind of went into the background and emphasis was put on the action-part, because this one is action-packed. No, they're no less hot, don't worry.

5 stars. Gimme book 7! Copy received from NetGalley

I do have the knack of starting a series smack in the middle. But, really, I read the blurb and I just couldn't say not to it! It sounded like the perfect book, and one that would get me out of a funk. Not reading for 4 days does not happen often.

So, mythology. Alpha heroes. Strong heroines. That's what this series is all about. I started this one, book 3, with no background knowledge of the series, characters, nada. I have to say, it took me a little to understand who, what, where and how because it's such a complex world, with quite a lot of characters and creatures. And background from the previous two books.

But it pulled me right in.

The story's a little push-and-pull. The hero doesn't want to heroine. She wants him; then she doesn't. And of course that the hero changes his mind. I actually loved that the women in this series have a backbone; they're not to be told what to do or be walked all over on. WIN! And, okay, so the hero was big, bad and blond [my (un)holy trinity], so it was easy to forgive him.

The story line is amazing; the different world, the characters, everything is really well done. You get quite a lot of feels. You will, especially, feel hot, a lot of times. Because, hoo-boy, these guys talk the talk and walk the walk!

So, in a nutshell: PNR + mythology + alpha heroes + strong heroines + unique plot = a very, very happy me!

4.5 - 5 stars. If you're a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld, then you'll love this one. Ah, it's just a teensie bit hotter *cough* so hot *cough*

Title: Tempting Ecstasy
Author: Setta Jay
Series: Guardians of the Realms #4
Release Date: September 30th 2014

Synopsis

*Erotic Paranormal Romance*

Conn had spent the millennia of his life fighting alongside his brethren as a Guardian of the Four Realms. He’d never allowed himself to imagine that he would be gifted a mate but her scent was inside him now. The intoxicating lure incited his wolf to track her and claim her in a sexual frenzy she could never deny. He refused to repeat the mistakes his brothers had made in their unions, instead he planned to fight the demands of his beast and tempt his female.

Dacia had spent the years of her life as a guardian of her family's secrets. Her days were consumed with helping her siblings search for the Immortals who had escaped the God Apollo’s brutal training camps with her parents thousands of years ago. They were the only hope of finding answers to questions about their lives. Questions her parents hadn’t resolved before their deaths.

Not in her wildest of dreams would Dacia have imagined the answers would instead find her. Or what form those answers would take. The breathtaking male who stepped out of the night and into her life was certainly not one of the hidden Immortals her parents had told of, he was so much more. Wielding both immense power and thrilling strength he aroused not only her body but the wolf hidden within.

Dacia needed to find a way to trust her seductive Guardian, not only with herself, but with her family as well. But how long could she hold out against both the intensity of the mating frenzy that demanded sexual release, and the wickedly sexy male who was tempting not just her body... but also her heart?

Warning: This book is intended for an adult audience. It contains explicit sex; voyeurism; dirty talking males with bad language

In this one, it's Conn's turn to find his mate. But he didn't expect the small 'army' he got along with said mate.

Dacia's family is pretty big, consisting of several sisters and brothers. Just when she wants to move out and be alone, she finds a sexy stranger in her bedroom. And he's a powerful Lykos, to boot.

Now, this one's a slow burn, compared to the previous books. Conn knows he has to take it slow with Dacia, since she doesn't know of Immortals and their ways, of mates and how it all works. She's lived with and among humans, so she tends to think and act like one. Until her beast sets its sights on Conn, that is.

I enjoyed this one, too and it's always great to read updates about the other couples.

Plus, this one had a major twist, one I didn't see coming, so, I'm curious to see where the author takes it.

4.5 stars. Copy received from Netgalley.

After starting the series with book 3 - and loving it - of course that I had to go back, to the beginning of it all, and read the first two. Best choice I've ever made.

First, of course that everything made more sense. While yes, the story line is complex, in book 1, everything is laid out.

Uri's a Guardian; Alex is a demi-goddess. They have a habit, for the lack of a better word - and it's a pretty hot one, may I add!

After practically playing cat and mouse, things are taken to a new level, because Alex needs Uri's help. I love how, besides the main characters' love story, we get a second one too. Plus, since it's all in 3rd person, we get to see pretty much everything else that happens.

These two are perfect for each other. Of course that Uri's alpha, possessive, while Alex is strong and can hold her own. She is a demi-goddess, after all.

Throw in some bad guys that are experimenting on innocents, kidnappings, whirlwind romances and very steamy sex scenes, and you get the perfect book, practically.

This series became a fave. Truly. I don't have one fave character because I love them all. Okay, so maybe I'm partial to the baddest of them all, Drake. Can you blame me?

5 stars. Perfect start to a series. It also hints at what comes next.

Warning: Dirty talking, possessive alpha male; scenes of sexual exhibition; an instance of f/f; spankings and more.

Buy Link

Hoo boy. They are getting hotter and hotter!

I love that it's a continuous story line, picking it off right where the previous book ended.

Gregoire is the most alpha of all the Guardians, so far. They're all possessive, don't get me wrong, but G takes it to a whole new level. And it's HOT!

Unlike other Immortals, he had known his mate since she was born. Being a rough type and very intense, he didn't let his mate know they were meant to be when she turned eighteen, the age an Immortal can be mated.

Alyssa finds out and she feels unwanted. So, she takes her best friend, Rain, and they up and leave to an island where they can relax but also find pleasure at the hands of other Immortals.

Of course that Gregoire doesn't take that well and he's off to finally claim his little mate.

Alyssa may be innocent, but she's far from naive and a doormat. She speaks her mind, whether Gregoire likes it or not.

I love the gradual process of them coming together and falling for each other.

Of course that it's not all rainbows and sunshine, so the bad guys are still running amok, doing their experimenting.

The feels I got from reading this book... They were all there. It's never a dull moment, with these characters. Nor does it lack the 'sweet-baby-cherubs-that-is-HOT' factor.

5 stars. Nothing more to add, other than read these books.

Excerpt:

To: Lise.Barrett@ctuniversity.edu

Do you have any idea how good you look in those jeans? And how much I’d like to see you out of them? But, alas and alack, I promised Dean Jones I’d pop by for some of his wretched Sherry this evening. Rain check on those jeans?

Tony was in the same department as I, but he taught only dead authors, while I’d committed myself to live ones – hey, at least we both loved to read. Tony was also the kind of rangy, long-limbed, blond-and-blue-eyed man who could make tweed look trendy and he was my other big secret. Not that we’d get fired if people learned of our on-again/off-again affair – I mean, it wasn’t like he was a student, after all – but it would be frowned upon, particularly when each of us came up for peer review.
We’d been together for three years. At the end of the first year, he’d asked me to marry him. Not realizing how serious he was, I’d all but laughed in his face.
“Who gets married these days after just one year together?” I’d said. “And why? I’m not even ready to have kids yet.”
A year later, following a pregnancy scare of Sara’s, I thought I had the childbearing itch and asked him to marry me. It was his turn to laugh.
“You’re still not ready to have kids. You’re not ready to be married,” he’d said. “Don’t be ridiculous. Ask me again someday when you understand what it is you’re saying.”
I had a hunch that his “no” was a defensive reaction to my earlier “no,” but even I could see he was right: I wasn’t ready, neither for marriage nor kids.
Since then, we’d just continued on in our off-again/on-again way, neither of us ready for anything more, both content to remain what we were at least for the time being: a man and a woman who enjoyed each other’s company more than we did anyone else’s. Oh, and the sex was still good.
I wrote him back that he could have as many rain checks as he needed, provided he had some power over the universe and could make it warm enough to turn the oddly persistent snow into rain.

About the Author
Lauren grew up in Monroe, CT, where her father owned a drugstore at which her mother was the pharmacist. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut at Storrs, where she majored in psychology. She also has what she calls her “half-Masters” in English from Western Connecticut State University (five courses down, another five to go…someday!).

Throughout college, she worked semester breaks as a doughnut salesperson, a job that she swears gave her white lung disease from all the powdered sugar she breathed.

Upon graduation, she began work at the venerable independent spacebookseller, now sadly defunct as such, Klein’s of Westport. There, she bought and sold for the better part of 11 years.

In November 1994, Lauren left the bookstore to finally take a chance on herself as a writer. Success did not happen over night. Between 1994 and May 2002 – when Red Dress Ink called with an offer to buy THE THIN PINK LINE – Lauren worked as a book reviewer, a freelance editor and writer, and a window washer, making her arguably the only woman in the world who has ever both hosted a book signing party and washed the windows of the late best-selling novelist Robert Ludlum.

Since Red Dress Ink’s call in 2002, Lauren has been kept very busy with writing more novels and checking her Amazon ranking on a daily basis. She still lives in Danbury, with her husband and daughter, where she has lived since 1991.

In addition to writing, Lauren’s daughter keeps her busy, accounting for the rest of her time.

Lauren’s favorite color is green.

Reviews ~ Slammer by Tabatha Vargo

Title: Slammer
Author: Tabatha Vargo
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release: August 25, 2015

SYNOPSIS

The last place Christopher Jacobs, aka X, thought he’d find himself was behind bars. Ten years later, the boy he used to be is gone. In his place is the shell of a man with murder under his belt. Any emotion he once had was left under the gavel when he was given life in prison. That is until the new nurse in the infirmary joins the block.
Putting your hands on a prison employee will get you the hole, but some things are worth their punishment, and something tells him Lyla will be worth more than he bargained for.

Lyla Evans isn’t sure about her new job at a maximum security prison, but showing uncertainty and weakness isn’t an option. Taking care of murders and rapist isn’t ideal, but survival is key. She’s warned ahead of time about a prisoner named X, but when she’s attacked, it’s the dangerous X that saves her. Fraternizing with the prisoners is forbidden, but sometimes the most forbidden things are the sweetest.

Lynn~4 Stars

Do you love great romance? Where the couple fall madly in love, can't keep their hands off each other, and do all the things that lovers do?

Well go hop on your unicorn and tell him to double time it running on the rainbow back to Candyland and pick yourself up another book on the way. This shit ain't for you.

This was given to me as an ARC for an honest review and honestly I never saw it coming. Lyla Evans is a nurse stuck taking a job in a maximum security prison just because she needs money. There she meets one of the most dangerous criminals ever to be incarcerated in the facility; Christopher Jacobs. AKA, "X". As their meetings become routine, feelings develop. Not much in prison is as it seems (who knew!) and on top of all the vulgar things said to Lyla by the prisoners, and behind her back by the CO's, there has been a price put on her head. When X finds out he swears to himself to do everything he can to protect her. I'm not saying much more because I don't want to ruin it.

So my synopsis is this, it grabbed my attention from the first page because it begins at a gruesome crime scene. The storyline is good, the character build up is good. There's some things that gave me an "oh come on!" moment. You'll find out which ones when you read the book and realize even with the curtain closed you can't hide what you're doing in there when there's other people in the room. There were some grammatical and spelling errors in it, but since it was an ARC, and the author has yet to get it fully edited, I'm not holding that against the author and using it in my rating. I say it's worthy of a 4 - 4 1/2 star rating in my opinion.

This is not a sweet book. This is not a relationship with a HEA. So if crude talking prisoners, corrupt prison employees, and the occasional ass raping doesn't bother you, you should probably pick this one up. The end will slap you cross yo face harder than yo momma did the first time you yelled the "F" word when you fell off your bike after the training wheels were removed.

Amy~ 4 Stars

Slammer is the story of Christopher Jacobs aka "X" and Lyla Evans. X has been in prison for the past 10 years, convicted of a double homicide. He has no recollection of the events of the homicide, but pled guilty to the charges, believing he is guilty of the crimes. Lyla is a nurse, who has just started working in the infirmary at the prison where X is incarcerated. X immediately doesn't like Lyla, believing she is too soft to work in the prison setting. Lyla is wary of X because of the stories she has heard of the circumstances surrounding his incarceration and his reputation within the prison.

What eventually develops is a sort of friendship, which then turns into a more substantial relationship. Lyla believes X is innocent of the crimes he's convicted of and begins digging into the circumstances of the case. Some of the information Lyla uncovers upsets some pretty powerful players, and her life is jeopardized because of it. X becomes more of her protector, but Lyla isn't the only one who's in danger within the walls of the prison.

There are scenes that are quite brutal, so if you can't tolerate that, this might not be the book for you. When the final story unraveled, I was shocked by the turn of events. The epilogue was especially chilling for me. The story was well-written and kept me intrigued through out.

Shanda- 4.5 Stars
I really didn’t know what to expect from reading Slammer but it did surprise me. I assumed it would be dark since it is sent in a prison but it was ugly. I was intrigued on how the author was going to pull off a love story in a prison. This is the story of Christopher Jacobs aka “X”, a man who has been behind bars for ten years, and Lyla Evans a new nurse at the max security prison X is in.

X was convicted of a double murder that he doesn’t remember committing, but he believes he is guilty. He is dead inside and greatly feared inside the prison. Lyla’s’ arrival angers him because he is scared for her and just wants her gone. Lyla is wary of X because of how he acts towards her but she is drawn to him and they develop a friendship. As the story progresses and they get to know each other they form a friendship that leads to more. X and Lyla were scorching hot together, and if you are wondering how they achieved this in prison I won’t spoil. I will say this part was a bit unbelievable for me, how they went about it was risky and made me roll my eyes a little, but I was caught up in the hot sex and for the sake of the story I went with it. I liked both Lyla and X, Lyla did things at times that made me question her common sense but for the most part I liked her. X broke my heart, I felt for him struggling to understand how he could be such a monster.

In an effort to leave this spoiler free I will say the story kept me glued to my kindle. It was violent: what you imagine happens in prison does happen in this book and it was BRUTAL! It was sad: I cried in one scene towards the end. At times the story was hopeful but bottom line it is dark, bloody, and most of all unfair so be prepared. The last 20% of the book had me riveted and the ending was a mindfuck. IT GAVE ME CHILLS!

Well done!
