Reviews Beyond Her Words, Corrupt Chaos MC series by Bink Cummings

Title: Beyond Her Words
Author: Bink Cummings
Series: Corrupt Chaos MC
Release Date: November 16th 2015

Synopsis

Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths and lady luck tucked into their back pocket. Then there's people like me, who live to survive. Survive loss. Survive loneliness. Survive the black tar that swallows you whole, stealing everything and anything that could resemble a piece of happiness. They try and fail, try again and fail even harder. Starting life's never ending cycle of wash, rinse, and repeat.

That's me. Or it was. Ten years I wandered through life. Through ten towns. Through ten men. Then, I didn't anymore. A hellacious storm came and ripped everything away, leaving me stripped bare for the most beautiful man. A man part of the Corrupt Chaos Motorcycle club, who not only saved my life but rescued my soul. Or so it may seem from the outside. On the inside, it's not that simple. Life never is.
It's dirty.
It's ugly.
And it's painstakingly relentless.

I'm Magdalene Murdock and this is my story.

Warning: Contains shameless adult sexual content, an arseload of profanity, and whatever the hell else that makes it unsuitable for folks under the age of 18.

Lynn

What a completely opposite style of writing than we're use to from Bink. Such a touching and sweet journey of love for two characters who've been abused in their own separate ways.

After a life threatening accident during a storm brings Lachlan racing into Mag's life to save her, he realizes she has no one to care for her during recovery. That is when Mag becomes part of a family whether she wants to or not! She has a chance to mend not only her battered body, but also her and Lachlan's battered souls.

Lachlan, you stubborn arse, how I loved ye. Even when I wanted ta smack ye upside ye bloody head for not understanding Mags loved ye for yeself .... not seeing ye as some kinda freak that ye think ye are!!(Was that enough "ye's" for y'all?)

But seriously now, I did like this book a lot. It was not like most books I read where everything happens fast and hot. It was a slow build up sorting through emotions, feelings, memories and friendship to crest the peak of true love.

 Iza

*sigh* Lachlan <3

No, seriously, HUGE SIGH! He's absolutely perfect!

"Ye make everythin' better just by breathin'."

How can you do this to me, Bink? You made me fall for this perfect man and he's fictional!

Leaving the crazy aside, I loved this book. It's the first but not last that I'm reading by this author. I love the style, loved the dynamics between the characters. Sure, there was an MC in it but it was more of a background thing. At the forefront were two broken people that found each other and did their best to heal one another. And you know what? They're on the right track.

Maggie is my kind of girl. She's sweet but she can be hard. She won't let anyone walk all over her and she protects what's hers. And Lachlan is hers. Yes, the story is long, no, there's no insta-love - thank God. And you know what? That makes it more real and that's something I love. I could totally imagine this playing out in real life. Everyone is broken, in one way or another, everyone has a story we know nothing about but when it's the right one, you get to help mend the broken pieces. And these two, slowly but surely, do exactly that.

I love the ending. I love that's not a 100% HEA. It's more of a HFN - happily-for-now. Again, makes it feel more real. So I'm hoping to find a very own Lachlan, can you truly blame me?

Ms. Cummings, bravo. Kudos for creating a character that has now a special place in my heart and a book that will be reread. I also think it may have given me a book hangover. Couldn't put it down. Now what?

5 stars.

P.S. I also want to thank one of my book friends for telling me about a book she 5-starred and I should try reading. I love you.

Review The Striker, Highland Guard series by Monica McCarty

Title: The Striker
Author: Monica McCarty
Series: Highland Guard
Release Date: November 24th 2015

Synopsis

Six years ago, Eoin "Striker” MacLean endured the greatest betrayal of his life, a disaster that led Robert the Bruce to a crushing defeat and left Eoin without the spirited woman who ruled his heart. Eoin knew that falling in love with his sworn enemy’s daughter was risky, dividing him between a possessive desire for beautiful Margaret MacDowell and an undying loyalty to his king. He promised Bruce that he would keep his fiery bride in the dark about the elite Highland Guard, but he could not predict the dire consequences his secret would have on his young marriage. Nor could he foresee how surrendering to temptation could cripple Bruce’s cause, forcing Eoin to blame his wife—and himself for trusting her.

Now, as Bruce prepares to challenge the resistance’s remaining strongholds, Eoin finally has his chance for revenge against the woman he once loved so fiercely and her entire clan. But when ferociously independent Margaret reveals a surprise that unites her with Eoin, neither of them will let their love go down without a fight.

Review by Iza

I first discovered a Monica McCarty historical romance novel in my local library, a few years back. And boy, did I love it! I think that was the start of my love for Highland warriors and this genre.

So, I jumped at the opportunity of reading this one. And I'm not sorry. The many feels it gave me, it gripped me from the very beginning. It's rich in historical facts and details, transporting you back to those times. These make it real, yet you can still feel the fact that it's fiction and no, that's not bad. At all. I loved it, I loved the characters - especially the brooding and moody hero!

Eoin and Margaret are perfect for each other. I love how we get the present, but also the past. How they met, how they fell in love - you can feel the lust between them and I was a little surprised by the naughty bits and scenes because I didn't recall reading them in Ms. McCarty's previous books, hah - and how they ended it, before reuniting in the present.

I'll be checking out the other books in the series and I highly recommend this one. 5 stars.

COVER REVEAL - ANARCHY FOUND BY J A HUSS

Anarchy Found
J.A. Huss
(SuperAlpha Series)
Publication date: December 2nd 2015
Genres: Superhero Romance
Everyone needs a hero.
That’s what Detective Molly Masters tells me. “What we need,” she says, “what the whole world needs,” she pleads, “is a champion.”
The only thing I want to talk about with Molly Masters is how I’d like to make her scream my name when I push her up against a wall, slide my hand up her thigh, and live out my wildest fantasies.
“Someone who will fight against injustice,” she says.
I’ll fight against anything you want, honey. Just come a little closer.
“Someone who will stand tall in the face of adversity,” she says.
I’ll do it standing, sitting, or lying down. See how easy I am?
“Someone who believes in the value of a good deed,” she says.
I believe in the value of me, sweetheart. Because I’m Lincoln Wade. Jaded genius, obscenely wealthy, capable of violence, and looking for revenge.
Molly Masters might have delusions of grandeur. She might see me as some superman capable of cleaning up the scum, filth, and corruption in Cathedral City.
But I’m not the hero she’s looking for.
I’m the dark alley where all her good intentions hide.
So be careful what you wish for, Molly Masters.
Because you’re about to get it.

King Excerpt
King
Tattooing Doe was the single most erotic moment of my life. Marking her perfect, pale skin with a tattoo I'd designed for her made me so fucking hard I had to adjust myself every thirty seconds in order to concentrate on my work.
When I was done, I handed her the hand mirror, and she walked over to the full-sized mirror that hung on the back of the door, like she'd seen dozens of my other clients do before. When she held up the hand mirror, she gasped.
"What?" I asked in a panic, hoping she didn't already see what I'd hidden in the tattoo. I was an asshole for putting it there. I was an asshole for tattooing her in the first place.
I was just an asshole.
But I couldn't help myself. My name needed to be on her. It wasn’t enough just to call her mine. I needed to mark her as well. So hidden in the vine work under the quote I found that I thought was perfect for her, was my name.
KING was woven into the design.  In order to see it you had to tilt your head or otherwise you wouldn't notice it. But it was there.
I would tell her eventually of course, but I wanted it to be my secret for a while. She'd stopped being my possession a while ago, a lot longer before I cared to admit, but I still felt the need to mark her as mine.
I still liked the idea of owning her.
Only now, she owned me, too.
She didn't notice the name. Tears filled her eyes. She stood there staring at the hand mirror in just her panties. Little cheeky ones where her ass hung out of the bottoms. Her tits were only inches from my face. Her tears of happiness made my dick twitch. Although her sad tears evoked the same response.
My dick wasn't partial to which kind of tears he liked.
I took the mirror from her hand and lifted her up onto the counter. "You like it?" I asked, pushing her panties down her legs.
"I love it," she panted, wrapping her legs around me, drawing me close. Her wetness soaking my boxers. I pushed them down with one hand. I'd been hard for three hours, the entire time I’d been working on her, and couldn't wait any longer. I pushed inside her tight, wet heat.
We both moaned at the contact.
"You love it?" I asked, needing to hear her say it again.
"Yes, I love it!" she said as I thrust up into her, hard. "I love it. So much. I love you."
I froze when I heard the words, and when I did, her eyes flung open.
"I didn't mean—"
"Shut the fuck up."
"Oh my god, I have that word vomit thing. I’m sorry.  Shit, I just meant that—"
"Shut the fuck up!" I demanded, thrusting hard to get her attention. She closed her eyes, and her head fell back. "That's fucking better. Now, keep that pretty mouth of yours shut while I fuck you."
"Okay," she whispered, breathless.
"Shut up," I said again, and she closed her mouth. "Shut up so I can fuck you…and show you how much I love you."
She nodded and although her eyes stayed shut, a tear rolled down her cheek. I sucked it off her chin before it could fall to the floor.
Then, I fucked her.
Hard.
I showed her how much I loved her until I couldn't tell where I started and she began. Until all that was in that room was me and her and the thing between us that kept pulling us together like magnets. Until we were lost in sensations and orgasms.
And in each other.
I fucked her until we were one person, and in a way we were, because I'd lost myself along the way and I found myself again in the most unlikely place.
I'd found myself again in the haunted eyes of a girl who was just as lost as I was.
Or maybe, we didn't find each other at all.
Maybe, we just decided to be lost together.

Tyrant Excerpt
He cupped my ass and lifted me up, wrapping my legs around his waist. “There was one point I’d made the decision to tell you the truth. I owed you that much. But then all the shit went down with Isaac and Preppy, so when I made the deal with your father for Max, I thought I was doing you a favor by giving you your life back and getting you out of all the shit that came with being in mine.”
I squeezed my thighs around his waist, rubbing myself against his hardness. I moaned. “But you weren’t giving me my life back.” I corrected. I placed my palms on his cheeks and held his face in my hands, searching for any sign in his eyes that what I felt for him might have been wrong, but instead what I found was a resounding need to fix what was broken between us. Tears formed in my eyes. “You were taking it away.” King’s lips parted. He ran his thumb across my lower lip, turning his head he kissed his way up my arm.
“Goosebumps,” King observed, running his fingertips across my already stimulated skin. I bit my lip and stifled a moan.
“It’s just the heat," I lied.
"You've got that fucking right," King growled, bending my wrist behind my back, his lips came crashing down over mine. We were a tangling of lips, clanking of teeth, sloshing through the water to better line ourselves up with each other. It wasn't pretty.
It was need.
"I’m still fucking mad at you for letting me go,” I said into his mouth, while our tongues did things other parts of me throbbed to do.
King stilled and held my face away from his, our chests heaving in unison, my erect nipples rubbing against his hot hard skin as we panted together. Our breaths mingled in the air. He ran his hand down the side of my face and cupped my cheek in his palm. "I didn't give you away, Pup. I released you."
I stilled. "You released me?" I couldn't hide the hurt in my voice. For some reason, releasing me sounded worse than letting me go.
King ran his tongue across the tip of my earlobe, holding me tightly against his warmth. Chills ran down my spine and into my very core and they had nothing to do with the temperature of the rain.
"I tried to release you, Pup. For Max. But there was a major problem with that plan, and no matter what happened, it would never have worked," King confessed.
"Why is that?" I asked, needing to know, but at the same time acutely aware of the pulsing between my legs. Relief and release was only a scrap or two of fabric away. Throbbing for me.
"The problem was…you never released me," King growled, crashing his lips to mine. He moaned into my mouth when I rubbed myself up against his straining erection. He pushed the fabric of my shorts aside and the second he parted my folds with his index finger, I shuddered. He plunged a long index finger inside of me, and for a second my eyes rolled back in my head until he withdrew it. I cried out in frustration, wiggling myself against him, needing him to make me feel anything other than empty.

***Authors' Note***
It's possible to only read the Calloway Sisters spin-off series without reading the Addicted series, but you MUST read Fuel the Fire (Calloway Sisters #3) before reading Long Way Down (Calloway Sisters #4).

It's highly recommended to read the books in the recommended reading order, which is in tangent with the Addicted series.

4.5 STARS

I have to say this series will go down as one of my all time favorites EVER! Anyone that knows me will tell you I don’t re-read books, but this is a series I would read again. I would especially listen on audio as I feel like I am with the characters somehow. This series has some of the best character development I have ever read in fiction. Over the course of 9 books the couples and the side characters have grown so much but at their core they are still the same. I can’t explain how much I love them. I will never have anything in common with these people, they are rich, famous, and live life in a way I would never understand. Throughout it all the Ritchie’s have written unique characters with relatable issues.

Long Way Down is Ryke and Daisy’s final book. The story is filled with so much heartbreak for both of them. But with their family and staying strong as a couple they make it through. Daisy finally figures out who she is and what she wants out of life, and Ryke deals with his own losses and gains in this story.

I will say I felt a bit shortchanged in a few areas. I didn’t understand the Cleo and Harper side-plot, I was waiting for a big bang on this and it didn’t go anywhere. The lack of development between Ryke and Willow bothered me. Knowing the kind of man Ryke is I didn’t understand the lack of bonding here. I really wanted more for them. I wanted more between Ryke and Connor. In Fuel the Fire I really felt they were coming to a sort of friendship, but in LWD it went back to a little more hostility. Yes they have a moment later in the book but it wasn’t enough for me. I wanted more with Jonathan and Ryke. I am not saying I wanted them to be besties and lovey dovey but I expected a little more development here. And lastly the writing felt a bit different in this book and I’m not sure why. FYI, Fuel the Fire is hands down the Ritchie’s best writing.

That being said my favorite moments in the book outweighed most of the slights I felt. I am going to list a few (but I have many more) of my favorites but some may be slightly spoilery.
1. Proposal *sigh*
2. Wedding and Vows * another big sigh*
3. The moments between Ryke and Daisy with her medical issue. There is no better BBF than Ryke Meadows. He will stand by you and fight for you to the end and he always wants the best for Daisy.
4. Lo and Ryke in the hospital
5. Connor and Ryke in the hospital
6. Jonathon and Ryke in the hospital
7. Ryke and Sully………………that whole climbing scene. GAH!
8. Daisy and Lo in the car with Connor. GUTTED!!
9. Jonathan Hale in the courtroom
10. Momma Calloway's toast.
11. The description of the TIME magazine cover. AMAZING!
12. The epilogue! LWD has one the best series ending epilogues ever and it gave me the FEELS. And it made me more anxious for the LIKE US series.

I am really dying for the extended epilogue book Some Kind of Perfect. The most important thing I want out of that is the event between Ryke, Daisy, Connor, and Rose. I need that in detail and I hope we get it. I am so excited to get more detail from that 10 year span from all of the characters. Again this is a fabulous series and I am so glad I invested my time in it. Well done!

Shut In  (Book 1)

Blaire didn’t know much about one-night stands, but she knew how they’re supposed to go. A night where inhibitions are thrown out, no names, no attachments, and in the morning you both go your separate ways, never to speak again. At least that’s what was supposed to happen.

Mother nature had other plans.

She established boundaries: No details, no more sex. But Joel was never much for following the rules. With a body built for sex and an appetite to match, one night with him would never be enough. Torn between the case that could make her legal career and a man who thinks of clothes as optional, how long could she stick to the rules?

Excper round.jpg

Twenty minutes later, I was just settling into a groove of fact-checking when my desk phone rang.
“Don’t hang up.”
It was the voice I’d been missing for days, and the one I least expected to hear on the other end of my work phone.
“Are you crazy? Are you trying to get me fired?” My eyes swung around the room as if anyone walking by would know who I was speaking to just by how panicked my voice sounded. But I have to admit, it is nice to hear from him, especially after that impersonal card he left. I banished those thoughts as Joel stammered on with words that flitted through my ears like bees whipping through a garden. I should have hung up. I shouldn’t have cared why he was calling or what he had to say. They could be tracing this call. At the time, I didn’t really know who they were, but it was enough to snap my mind into thinking straight—something that was obviously hard to do when it came to Joel. It seemed I only needed to hear his voice for my brain to check out, flipping the closed sign to alert all other thoughts that my brain would no longer be servicing them for the time being.
“I’ll call you back. Let me call you right back.” My words rushed out over his. I hung up, ignoring the frantic sound of his voice and his desperation to keep me on the phone. His words were gibberish in my tunnel vision to hang up. I breathed a sigh of relief that I was able to actually cut ties with him, and also because I hadn’t been caught with my hand in the cookie jar.
I stared at the phone log on my receiver for minutes while I thought about calling him back. If I didn’t call him back, I was sure he’d just hit redial. Whatever he had to say, I was going to hear it, one way or another. So I figured I’d get it over with and call him; at least there was a fail-safe in place. If I didn’t like where the conversation was going, I could just say I had to go for some work emergency or another, and he would be none-the-wiser.
My feet danced against the marble floor beneath my chair, releasing the nervous energy like raindrops beating against metal roofs. The phone only rang once before he answered.
“What do you want, Joel?” I whispered his name before continuing at my normal level, “I thought I was pretty clear that we had nothing left to say.”
“I don’t want to get you in any trouble, but I wanted to hear your voice. You don’t miss me?” The desperate plea I’d heard only moments before had been replaced with a voice I was used to, familiar with. One that whispered words between my thighs late at night. Just thinking about that voice stirred up a different kind of desperation.
An exhausted breath left my lips, but I didn’t get a chance to respond before he was cutting me off again.
“You don’t really need to answer that. I know the truth. Did you get my flowers?”
