Release Date: March 31st 2015

Synopsis

Two brothers bound by more than blood fight to change a brutal destiny in the heart-wrenching new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward.

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on... except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around... but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice...

Well, review and rating coming soon.

Edited: Review/ranting now, rating coming soon, since I have no idea what to rate it. So BEWARE --- Ranting ahead, may contain SPOILERS!

First of all, WHY?! How could JRW do this to Trez? The poor SOB deserved better than that ending. My heart broke for him, right down the middle, it cracked and I cried like a baby for him, feeling his pain.

Second of all, I realized I'm actually looking forward to both The Beast - Rhage's book, sort of - and the spinoff series. At first, I wasn't the happiest to hear that, once again, Xcor wasn't on the list of getting-his-HEA-soon. Which brings me to my next point...

Xcor. I got more of him in this book. Loads more. And everything went perfectly well - figure of speech - until it didn't. Until he did something that disappointed me; made me kind of hate him. The bastard - pun intended.

So, the book is like this: it goes well, on several fronts and POVs until it doesn't. It sort of got better, at the end. At least iAm got laid and all. Okay, joking aside, that guy deserved a HEA like no other. Maybe Trez deserved one too. I do hope there's one planned out for him, in the near or distant future. Because really, just as Rhage wondered, how come he and Tohr got one, but not Trez?

Anyway, putting all of the above mentioned aside, the book was way better than the previous one, I only had to skip over the parts with Assail, since I really don't care about him. Paradise was a great add to the story; looking forward to reading her and Craeg's book. I also loved how the Brotherhood sticks together, no matter what. They've really come far from how they were, in the beginning. They evolved and that just warms my heart.

So, now you see my dilemma. There were good parts and bad parts. And yes, the review does contain spoilers. Sorry about that, no other way to truly express my feelings while reading this long book.

Edited: I have decided to rate it 4 stars.

***Note: this review has been first written on Goodreads, and it shows my struggle on how to rate it and also review it.***
