Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.
She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love, and Lucy and Angie were just that.
Benji and Lucy were just two lost souls.
Floating through life with no purpose.
But finding each other gave them direction, a chance at a future.

4.5 STARS
I have to say Rushing the Goal is
definitely my favorite Assassins book.
Lucy is a single mom to 7 year old Angie. Lucy has been
burned bad but still has to have contact with her abusive ex because they share
custody of Angie. Lucy has all her walls up so she comes across as a shrew to
everyone around her and isn’t ready to get back out in the dating world. I
think she is just trying to keep from exploding by focusing on her work and
being a good mom.
Benji Paxton is one of the Assassins that is helping with
Angie’s hockey team. The intention is to only help out once but he really loves
it and connects with Angie so he stays. Benji has suffered a terrible loss and
is a recovering alcoholic. He is ready to get back in the dating game because
he is lonely and wants to find the one. He keeps striking out because he is
awkward and a bit dorky. When he meets Lucy sparks fly, her prickly attitude really
intrigues him. He pursues Lucy pretty hard and despite her protests she gives
in. I really loved their first sex scene together; it was fun and really hot.
Now if you are familiar with this series you know the heroes
are sweethearts, the women tend to be difficult, and there is insta love.
Lucy’s personality worked for this story so she didn’t bug me as much as the
other heroines in this series have. She
did have a few moments where I wanted to scream at her and tell her to get it
together. But Benji didn’t give up and stayed by her side proving he was what
she needed. The biggest reason I loved this book was Angie, she was a riot. I
love feel good romance with kids and this hit the spot.
Well done.
