Review Enslave Me Sweetly, Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter

Title: Enslave Me Sweetly
Author: Gena Showalter
Series: Alien Huntress
Release Date: June 19th 2006

Synopsis

Eden Black walks among humans, protecting them from the murderous evil of other-worlders who abduct and enslave. And though she appears to be human herself, Eden is an alien, a Raka, distinguished by her golden hair and skin, and gifted with the ominous ability to kill without remorse -- and with total accuracy. That is, until the fateful night she has one shot to eliminate her target, a human slaver -- and misses.

"Failure" is not in Eden's vocabulary. Neither is "partner" -- but that's what she is forcibly assigned after recovering from her disastrous mission. A sexy, steely-nerved human agent, Lucius Adaire enjoys nothing more than sparking the fury -- and rousing the desire -- of the fiery female assassin too proud to admit defeat. Locked in an assignment they cannot afford to lose, Lucius and Eden find themselves bound in two high-stakes, heart-pounding games: the sensual web of kill or be killed, and the erotic dance of seduction.

Review by Iza

It was a good one.

The enemies-to-lovers theme is strong with these too, haha! The hero is a total jerk, at the beginning, but the heroine isn't a damsel in distress either. Yay!

In a world where aliens are living on our planet, many things can go wrong. And that's why someone has to make sure to punish the bad guys.

Enter Eden Black, who's out to get a notorious alien that auctions off humans and aliens as slaves, to the highest bidder.

Enter Lucius - oh boy, newest partner to Eden after Eden sort of messed up. Not really her fault, if you ask me.

The back-and-forth between these two was well-done, some may say it was insta-love but really, that is something I accept in PNR. Seems more plausible there.

But all of that aside, I loved how they finally decided to work together and the ending was good. Yummy Lucius!

Gena Showalter can sure write 'em!

4 stars.

Synopsis:

~ Sometimes, one degree is all that separates you from the one you were meant to be with ~
Wes Bergman was sex on a stick.
We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs... attending the same events…sharing mutual acquaintances…yet we’d never actually met.
Until . . . we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before. But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him.
Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two things: twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up.
After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name.
Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And just my luck, that client’s CEO is none other than . . . Wes Bergman. Now I’m separated by one degree again from the man who stole my heart. And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most –
A Do-Over with Wes.

Tour Stop + Reviews + Giveaway Nothing Special V by A.E. Via

Title: Nothing Special V
Author: A.E. Via
Series: Nothing Special
Release Date: December 12 2016

Synopsis

Atlanta's notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele - who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department - to join the team. God and Day weren't recruiting. They have a lot on their plates, like the fact they're supposed to be getting married soon. They don't have the time or the patience to integrate a decorated war hero with a slight chip on his shoulder into their well-oiled machine.

A hothead that's uncontrollable and terrible with authority… but wasn’t that their team motto?

Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn't respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle - City Councilman, Rasmus Steele - shows him a video of God's team in action, he knows right away, it's where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.

Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God's technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech,” he's willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.

Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there's no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to fool him... fool all of them.

This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA. There are no multiple pairings in this novel.

Review by Stephanie

THE GUYS ARE BACK! THE GUYS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!

I was so excited that AE dropped this book early. I have been without them in what feels like FOREVER. I almost forgot how hilarious and special Day is. He really is the light in this series and will forever hold a special place in my heart. I have been with this series from day 1, literally, and I have been just so ecstatic to see it grow and the characters develop and change and grow. They’ve come so far in the two years + that they were introduced.

The stories only get hotter and more action packed and the characters more interesting and intricate. This story in particular is mainly about God and Day and Tech and Steele ((I love then nicknames she comes up with)). It rotates chapters between characters so we see the story in multiple points of view. The only “issue” I had with this was, I was half way though the book, and I could have sworn I was further along than that. It made it seem longer, not that it was boring or anything, just a lot going on (in a good way) and still so much more needs to happen.
That being said, that beginning?? I think I shed a few happy tears. Then in the middle I really started getting worried. God made me so, so nervous!!! And Tech?? He was such a nice surprise. I love him dearly and I want to keep him and hold him to my bosom forever and ever. He’s smart, sexy, and strong. He’s like the trifecta of awesome. I have a thing for nerds and silver foxes and AE ticked off all my boxes in this story. Steele also was a nice surprise. I loved that she wrote a character that could go head to head with God, but didn’t actually challenge him, because he respected his leadership. Even though they were pretty evenly matched.

The care Steele took of Tech and didn’t get overly stupid jealous with him and his overall maturity ((after the first incident)) was refreshing. The fact he didn’t want a “friends with bennies” situation, but an actual grown up relationship speaks volumes about him, again, a breath of fresh air! The action packed drama sequence was pretty hilarious too. I adore Ruxs and Greene and their general badassery. They did NOT disappoint!!

After I started reading this though, I *thought* there was going to be some Gen and Curtis. Have no fear y’all! There are some bonus chapters and they are SOOO worth it. I would seriously LOVE a straight up Gen book. I think he is such an awesome character and the way he loves Curtis is just do.damn.sweet!!!

All in all, I give this book 4.5* and I will be sitting here patiently waiting for some Free ((and Hart?? ;) ))

Review by Iza

I love these guys, they're very near and dear to me and I was so excited to read this book! More God & Day? Yes, please!

But. While there were some feels and a little drama, I didn't figure out what the actual plot was. Was it Steele and Tech getting together? Was it the issues that God and Day had that needed to be solved? Then there's the Preston thing thrown in... why?

It was a miss for me. I hate that but you can't love them all, I guess. But am I very excited about what comes next, just hope other things won't overshadow the actual plot. All in all, okay and some things I did love.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book. My rating is 3 - 3.5 stars.

“I bet you were adorable.” He put his knuckle under her chin and encouraged her to lift her head. She rolled back over and settled against his shoulder.

“I don’t want to be adorable. I want to be impossible.”

“How do you mean?” He kissed her forehead.

“I want to be impossible for you to forget, impossible for you to keep your hands off of.” She leaned up for a kiss.

“You’re my impossible then. Have no fear.” He tenderly reminded her he was her impossible, too, with his lips.

She put her hand against his stomach and snuggled in. “This is my spot. Right here. With you—it’s home.”

He swallowed before talking to the ceiling. “My heart was like a fist. Where I am? It’s not a place you plan to survive. I’ve been there for years, and it’s not about skill; it’s not even about luck. You get strapped into a machine, and fate’s driving. You can’t get out even if you want to. So you submit to it. You harden your soul. You get ready to die.”

He shifted, rolling on top of her. She sighed in contentment. Being beneath him made her feel safe and secure.

He kissed her lips, then the tip of her nose, before continuing. “But with you, it’s like my heart’s opening up, and I’m terrified to feel, after all this time. Yet I don’t have a choice. No matter where I am, I draw your face whenever I get a scrap of paper.”

He laughed a little. “We found a puppy, and I named it Fallen, just so I could say your name over and over. The guys think I’m crazy—such a strange name for a dog. But I don’t care. I’m gasping for you every moment I’m awake. And I’m making choices to keep me alive through the week.”

His eyes searched hers. “What if I’m not as tough as I was in the beginning? God, I hope no one is affected by my distraction with this. But in the end there’s you. Only you. Do what you have to to get back to me when you’re awake. You have to. I need you more than air, more than life right now. The softness of you, the tenderness in your eyes when you see me. I’m trying to force fate to throw me in your direction. To hurl me at you somehow. I don’t know if it will work. But I’m praying for it.”

Fallen touched his face, then his neck. “I will do everything I can to find you.”

Release Blitz Nothing Special V by A.E. Via

Title: Nothing Special V
Author: A.E. Via

Synopsis

The boys are back and fiercer than ever!

"We were a unit tonight, moving as one. Even apart, we are deadly, but when combined – we are f**kin’ unstoppable." ~~ God ~~

Atlanta's notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele - who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department - to join the team. God and Day weren't recruiting.

Steele pointed to the driver, a behemoth of a man wielding those massive firearms like a true beast… like a soldier. “And him. Who the hell is he?”

“That’s your new boss. Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey… they call him… God.”

“Ramos had a family. A husband, children, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who loved him. Now he’s gone. Why? Because he chose to have a husband instead of a goddamn wife. He was a good cop. He didn’t deserve it.”
“That type of hate is never deserved, vennapoeg. But I can’t have you blaming yourself for it all. He was off duty. He tried to stop a store robbery. He lost his life, but he saved two others before he did. He did his job, and it wasn’t your fault, Edwin.”
“I’m still done,” Steele repeated. He wasn’t sure if he was trying to convince his uncle or still trying to convince himself.
“Oh, you’re far from done. Joseph told me what you did when he was pulling up to get you. Your instincts, your reactions, your need to do good is in here, vennapoeg.” His uncle held his shoulder and placed his other hand over his heart. “There’s no quitting in here. There’s no quitting who you are. You’ll fight until your last breath, and that’s a long time from now. What do you think you’re going to do without your shield or a platoon? Become a Walmart greeter? Or become an alcoholic?”
His uncle’s gray eyes hardened and blazed with anger, his voice a menacing snarl. “Drowning yourself in the bottom of a bottle is beneath you. You will not disgrace your father… my brother. I won’t allow it. You are not tired, you’re not weak. It’s impossible,” he hissed, close to Steele’s face. “Your last name is Raud. Iron… steel. You think your great grandfather changed the meaning of our family surname… he only translated it to English. You are unbreakable. And I demand you act like it.”
Steele didn’t speak. His uncle was right. He’d let hurt and injustice control his actions.
