Screen Shot 2016-09-02 at 2.46.23 PM.png

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? That’s what they say, at least. I went into that day hoping I’d get the happiest day of my life. What I got? The worst. I mean, you really can’t get any worse of a day without someone actually dying.

So…I may have gotten just a little drunk, and maybe just a tad impetuous…

And landed myself in a dive bar somewhere in Alaska, alone, still in my wedding dress, half-wasted and heart-broken.

  ***

Eight brothers, one bar.

Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, yeah?

I kinda think so.

Wanna hear another joke? A girl walks into a bar, soaking wet and wearing a wedding dress.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. She was hammered, for one thing, and heartbroken for another. I’ve chased enough tail to know better. That kinda thing only leads to clinginess, and a clingy female is the last thing on this earth I need.

I got a bar needs running, and only me to run it—at least until my seven wayward brothers decide to show their asses up…

Then this chick walks in, fine as hell, wearing a soaked wedding dress that leaves little enough to the imagination—and I’ve got a hell of an imagination.
I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. Not so much as a finger, not even innocently.

But I did.

Shanda's Review

This was a fun start to a new series! I thought it was funny and as you can expect from Jasinda Wilder; downright dirty.

The story starts with Dru catching her finance cheating on her wedding day. In her anger and hurt she decides to run for it and jumps on a plane not knowing the destination. She ends up in Alaska and lands in a dive bar run by Sebastian. These two are instantly attracted to each other but Dru is struggling to figure out what to do next and dealing with her anger. Muddling her decision making is Bast who is coming on strong trying to get her in bed.

These two were pretty funny and hot together. I did find Dru to be a bit annoying because her mind was all over the place and she was exhausting to keep up with. But the longer she stays she realizes that she feels at home and she learns Sebastian might be what she needs. Bast is definitely a caveman but he was also a softy and he starts to see how lonely he has been. Bast is dealing with the death of his father and he learns that in order to get access to the estate he has to satisfy certain requirements of the will. This leads to the arrival of his 7 brothers which makes their living situation more crowded but comical.

Amy's Review

I liked the lead in for Zane’s book but it ran a bit long and took away from Dru and Bast. I would have liked a bit more in the epi for them because their ending felt a bit rushed. I will definitely be reading the next book. All the brothers seem to be unique and I am sure their stories will be fun.

Dru flees Seattle after catching her fiance having sex with someone else on their wedding day, at the church no less! She catches the first flight she can, which lands her in Ketchikan, Alaska. She stumbles into Badd's Bar & Grill, and meets Sebastian Badd. Their attraction is immediate and overwhelming for both of them, but they don't act on it....well, not on the first night, anyway.

Dru sees through Bast's gruff exterior to the guy beneath. Dru's only real problem is that she's in her head too much and it's a bit distracting for me. She quickly realizes that what she had with her cheating fiance wasn't what it should have been; and in fact, it had gone quite stale.

Bast is grieving the death of his father and is barely keeping things afloat at the family bar. All seven (yes, seven!) of his brothers have abandoned him as they came of age, leaving him to deal with the family business. Bast has never had the chance to pursue his dreams, nor to mourn his parents deaths (Mom's 10 years ago; and dad's just a few months earlier). When his father's will is read, Bast is surprised by the clauses his father put in place and it causes all of his brothers to return to Alaska. Bast is kind of an idiot when it comes to Dru; he almost lets her get away by acting like a complete ass. Luckily, one of his brothers calls Bast on his bullshit and he's able to clear the air with Dru before she can get away.

I enjoyed this story and I will definitely keep reading them as I want to know more about the other brothers. That being said, I was a bit disappointed in the epilogue; it focused too much on the next story and took a little bit away from Dru & Bast.

Review~ Keepsake by Sarina Bowen

There's a first time for everything.

Lark Wainwright used to be fearless. Her life was a series of adventures, each one more exhilarating than the last. But her recent overseas adventure was one too many. Now she’s home and in one piece. Mostly. But her nights are filled with terror.

When her best friend offers her a stay at the orchard in exchange for help at the farmers’ markets, Lark jumps at the chance to spend fall in Vermont. But her nightmares don’t stop. Desperate to keep her fragile state a secret, she relies on the most soft-spoken resident of the Shipley Farm to soothe her when her dreams prove too much.

Zachariah is a survivor, too. It’s been four years since he was tossed aside by the polygamist cult where he grew up. He’s found a peaceful existence on the Shipley’s farm, picking apples and fixing machinery. But getting thrown away by your own people at nineteen leaves a mark on a guy. He doesn’t always know what to make of a world where movie quotes are the primary means of communication. Before hitchhiking to Vermont, he’d never watched TV or spoken on the phone.

Actually, there are a lot of things he’s never done.

Zach and Lark slowly grow to trust one another. One night they become even closer than they’d planned. But Lark may still be too broken to trust anyone. When she pushes Zach away, he will have to prove to himself that he's good for much more than farm labor.

4 Stars

Definitely my favorite book in the series. Zach and Lark have both been through struggles in their life, although Lark's are much more recent. Zach does his best to help Lark work through her traumas, but eventually realizes that she needs more than can provide.

Zach worries throughout the book about his status with the Shipley family; he's always afraid of being tossed away, much like he was 4 years ago. He think he hides it well, but luckily one conversation initiated by Griffin sets Zach's mind at ease. Even so, Zach still struggles with what he wants to do with his future....other than having Lark at his side.

Lark is a genuinely likable character. She's trying to be strong and it's getting harder for her to hide her dilemma from those she cares about. She doesn't want to impose on anyone and feels like she's a burden to so many people.

Again, definitely my favorite book in the series, and I think a good end to this series. That being said, I really, really hope we get Zara's story in the future.

Blog Tour & Reviews - Beard Science by Penny Reid

Beard Science

by Penny Reid Winston Brothers #3 Publication Date: October 11, 2016 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Humor, Romance
beardscience
Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need? Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate. And desperate times call for Cletus Winston. Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So… what’s a maniacal mastermind to do? Likely, the last thing you expect. ‘Beard Science’ is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.

Shanda's 5 Star Review

Oh, Cletus Winston, I love you so much! I wish I had the right words to express my love.

If you are a fan of the Winston Brother’s series and you have been waiting for Cletus he DOES NOT disappoint. He is everything you wanted him to be and more. His lady love Jennifer Sylvester is just as wonderful and you can’t help but fall in love with her too.

Jennifer has always been the good girl and even though she is an adult she continues to do everything her parents say. As you can imagine she is screaming inside and ready to break free. As her mother’s ambitions continue to weigh her down she becomes desperate and decides she needs help. Jennifer decides to get Cletus to help her with some good old fashioned blackmail. It was so much fun to see her get one over on Cletus and it was fun to see her come out of her shell.

Cletus is the mastermind Winston brother. He is always in control and always has a plan. His world is shaken up big time when he is blindsided by Jennifer. It was quite funny to see Cletus try to get the upper hand but you know he is fooling himself. And I can’t even describe to you how adorable it was to see Cletus fall in love. He is spinning out of control and starts doing things out of character for him. He is clueless to the fact that he is making changes because he likes Jennifer. Let me tell you though; once Cletus faces his new reality he is one possessive man. *swoon*

It is very hard to find books anymore that make you sigh, your heart flutter, and just remind you of why you love romance. I think Penny Reid is a truly fantastic writer but with Beard Science she has created pure magic. This book just knocked over another favorite read for the number one spot on my 2016 list. I just can’t get over how much I loved Cletus and Jennifer. Beard Science is one of the few books I wish I could give more than 5 stars too.

Just to note: While you can read this as a standalone to get the full effect of all that is Cletus you really should read these books in order. It will just make the fall of Cletus all that much sweeter.

Amy's 5 Star Review

It's difficult finding the words to express how much I adored this book. Cletus is in rare form; and it's fun watching him get all the ribbing instead of him giving his brothers grief over their lady loves. Cletus is blackmailed by Jennifer "Banana Cake Queen" Sylvester to help her break out of the mold her parents put her in and to assist her in landing a husband. Cletus goes about this in his own way, and it's a fun ride to watch as he slowly realizes that he is the man for Jenn.

Cletus is swoonworthy, no if, ands, or buts about it. He had several lines that made my heart melt and sigh. Jenn is fun once she starts breaking out of her shell and starts to stand up for herself more and more. Jenn keeps Cletus on his toes, and it was fun reading how well they suited each other.

There were a few sad spots, but the Winston family sticks together through it all. It was great watching them all draw Jenn in and accept her as part of their family so quickly.

Cletus has definitely won my heart and it's going to take a lot for another Winston brother to knock him out. Well done!

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing). By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Excerpt

“You ever broken the law before this, Eden?”

I expected a quick and unequivocal no, but it didn’t come as fast as I thought it would.

“I don’t think so. I mean, I’m sure I have by accident sometime. I’ve jaywalked. But I’m not some kind of criminal.”

Well, that makes one of us, I thought.

My anger from earlier started to fade and be replaced by the heat of the knowledge that Eden’s naked tits were only inches from my chest, separated by water I could see right through. Last time I’d seen them under her pink bra, she’d been too fucked up for me to take advantage . . . but tonight she was completely sober.

I raised my gaze from her chest, expecting her cheeks to be red when she realized I was staring at her nipples, but she wasn’t watching my face. She was staring down at my body.

“Like what you see?”

That got her attention.

Eden jerked her head up to meet my eyes, and the blush colored her skin like I’d timed it.

“You’re . . . big.”

A booming laugh broke free from my throat at her unexpected response, and her cheeks flamed even brighter.

“No, that’s not what I meant. I mean . . . everywhere. Not just, in the . . .” She looked down, then jerked her gaze back to mine. “I’m going to shut up now.”

That kind of awkward and fumbling response couldn’t be faked, and protectiveness rose in me again. Eden was no con artist. She was a girl who couldn’t even say the word cock without turning red.

“Ain’t no shame in my game.”

She reached out a hand and covered my lips with her fingers. “Stop. You’re just making it worse. I wasn’t checking out your . . . package. I mean, I did before you got in the pool, but that’s only because I thought you’d have underwear on because who doesn’t wear underwear?” The babbling continued, and so did my laughter.

Hell, I hadn’t laughed this much since Delilah had given in to a customer’s request and tattooed a flexing veined eggplant cartoon on a client so he could send pictures of it instead of dick pics.

Eden pulled her hand back and covered her face. “I’m going to stop talking now. I seriously can’t be trusted to say anything that’s not completely humiliating when you’re standing this close to me naked.”

“I disagree, and since I’m not ready to get out and put my clothes on, you’re going to have to deal with it.”

She mumbled something under her breath.

“Come again?”

Eden pressed her lips together for a beat before saying, “I don’t know how to deal with it. This isn’t something I’ve ever dealt with before.”

A crazy thought popped into my brain. “Are you a virgin?”

If there was a red brighter than fire engine, that was the color of Eden’s cheeks. “No! Of course not. Really. I’ve touched a dick before. I mean, just the one, but it still counts. Well, I didn’t really touch it. Except, you know, inside me. Oh my God, I’m just going to shut up now.”

Realization dawned on me as her babbled protest silenced. “You’ve had sex with one guy? Once? How old are you?”

Eden turned to bolt, but instead smashed her tits into my arm. I stepped close enough so that only an inch of water separated us.

Her gaze went skyward. “This is so humiliating.”

That’s where she and I had differing opinions. “Why? Because you haven’t fucked every guy you’ve ever met? What’s wrong with that?”

Eden’s gaze snapped down to mine and her brows drew into slashes. “Hey, whoa now. You can toss that double-standard crap right in the trash. What if I had screwed every guy I ever met? Would that make me less of a person? I mean, it’s not like you probably haven’t been with dozens and dozens of women. I’m not judging you. Except for maybe that Kitty girl. I mean, really? You’ve got to have some standards.”

My laughter boomed out again across the courtyard. “Cupcake, just because I can get most any pussy I want, doesn’t mean I do it.”

“Still, double standards are—”

When she started on another tirade, I decided to silence her the best way I knew how.

I leaned down and covered her lips with mine.

  Review by Iza

"You wanna get dirty in NOLA, cupcake?"

I'm not kidding when I say Meghan March knows the way to my heart with the men she writes. Especially the guys from the Beneath series
Move over Lord and Rix, there's a new guy  in my heart now and his name's Bishop. He's big, he's bad and bearded. Perfect.

"You're gonna ride my beard until I tell you to stop." Holy. Hell."

But I not only fell for Bishop, but for Eden too. I think we all have a little bit of Eden in us, some more than others, but it's there. She's there. You'll understand this better after you read the book. And believe me, you'll want to read it. Why? Because Meghan March nails it. We not only get to learn more about the mysterious Bishop, but see more of the other characters we've grown to love so much. We get a glimpse of what's going on after their HEA starts and I loved it!
It's your typical Meghan March book, filled with some funny moments, ones that make you swoon and melt, while others make you fan yourself because Bishop. Enough said.
The fact that two worlds collide is just a bonus! Again, you'll get it after you read the book. I'm not going to spoil it for you. It's all worth it, you'll see.
It's another favorite of mine, it made the top reads of 2016 list, of course, and I can't wait for more, though it'll be bittersweet and I'm sure I'm going to cry because it'll be the last book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, which I'm going to rate 5 stars.

"You're mine. I don't have much, but what's mine I keep. I protect. I don't ever let it go."
