I did my time. I’ve cleaned up. Well, sort of. I got plans. Yeah, good ones. Then I ran into her. A bolt of lightning Startling Unsettling Breathtaking Out of reach. The woman I once scorned years ago is now the woman I can’t live without. I need what I didn’t think I’d ever need again. I want and want and want. Torture. She’s the epicenter of the war I’ve triggered, of the battle in my rusted heart. I may be as reckless as I ever was, but I’m determined as fuck. To hell with it. I want it all.

I seriously think Cat topped Random & Rare for me. It’s so close, like neck and neck, I am so torn! Blood & Rust exceeded my expectations and frankly I am in awe of Ms. Porter’s talent. I have screamed from the roof tops for quite some time about how much I love this series. The attention to detail is astounding and it is done so beautifully. Ms. Porter knows how to “take you there” in her writing without bogging the story down. Another plus in this series is the older characters; I love reading about people around my age that I can relate to. These people are honest about who they are, they have learned the hard lessons of youth, and are done with games. Butler and Tania were made for each other and they were meant to come together at this point in their lives.

I have fallen in love with every one of the heroes in the Lock & Key series and from Butler’s introduction in book one I was hooked. He has suffered through tremendous loss and overcome addiction so he has definitely come a long way. He started his path to redemption in Iron & Bone and in Blood & Rust he is finding his way back home to the Jacks. He crosses paths with Tania (Grace’s bestie) and this starts their journey. I was so surprised by the history these two had. In their youth they weren’t right for each other but now that Butler has overcome some of his battles, and Tania has walked away from her marriage, they are ready. But of course there are some obstacles in their way.

Tania was a truly fabulous character. I freaking love the heroines in this series; they are strong, fierce, and not afraid to go for what they want. Tania is coming to the end of her marriage. In reality it was over long ago but she is done. She is ready to give her all to fulfilling her dream of opening her own shop and doing what she wants to do with no apologies. I loved the progression of Butler and Tania’s slow burn romance. The sexual tension about killed me with these two but it was worth the wait. One of the most surprising and wonderful aspects of the story was Tania’s connection to Finger. I freaking loved their relationship and I am dying to know more about Finger.

I don’t think there is anything better for me as a reader to find a series that pulls me in and won’t let go. I devoured Butler and Tania’s story and immediately dove back in to re-read some scenes. I highlighted like crazy and messaged my review partners to discuss. The story was executed so well and had so much good stuff I couldn’t possibly list it all. It is rich, vibrant, and I ate up every word and greedily wanted more. Seriously, I can’t say enough about this series and Ms. Porter’s writing. BRAVO!!

P.S. I have claimed this book as mine. There were several things that spoke to me in the story and If you keep an eye out you might spot my cameo * wink wink *. So…..back off girls! Hahahaha!!

Yes, yes, yes.....to everything in this book! Butler is redeemed so fully, at least in my opinion. There were so, so many lines that I highlighted, so many things that I just treasure about the way his story played out. His connection to Tania really made him re-evaluate how he was "living" and made him want to more than just exist.

And Tania....seriously, she is definitely one of my favorite female characters from a book. She is strong, but vulnerable; sturdy, yet fragile; and she is fierce when she needs to be. We get just a bit of her history and the way she's gone about her life since leaving Meager. We all know she's loyal, but I think you really get a sense of her depth of loyalty in this book, especially with the secrets she's been keeping.

Of course, we also get to see all of our favorites: Boner and Jill; Rae; Catch (Tanya's brother); and Grace and Lock. Lemme tell ya.....Lock's speech at his son's christening made me love him even more; the meaning behind their son's name was special and completely fitting to their lives.

This book just floored me....and if I'm being completely honest, I think it's my favorite in the series. Well done, Cat!

There is a very good reason why Cat Porter is one of my absolute favorites; why she quickly made the top of my list - top five, to be precise. This woman, this amazing woman always manages to give me all the feels with her books, whether it's a biker that tells us how much he loved his old lady but is happy that she found another to love her, after his passing - yes, Random & Rare, the book that made me bawl like a baby for hours after finishing - or a mysterious Lord from a Gothic romance that gives you the chills, just like a Bronte hero or makes you swoon, like an Austen one - Wolfsgate.

I've been waiting to read Butler's book since last October, when I stumbled upon him and fell in love with the character that was more than a biker who did drugs; the biker that thought he loved a fellow biker's old lady. There was so much more to him, I couldn't wait to have the layers peeled off.

Granted, it took a while, but slowly, with each book written, I got more and more, and oh my God, I still want more, even after reading Blood & Rust!

You see, this is not like the previous books. It's different. We get the good, the bad, the ugly and the horrible. We get the story of two people that heal one another. We get the happily-ever-after, of course, but the road is a long one. This one is a slow burn and I wouldn't imagine it any other way.

Butler came a long way, a very long way. You can see, feel his struggle because it's not over. I think that's one of the things I love about Cat's books, about her writing. She doesn't sugarcoat anything, she writes it as it is, as it would be in real life, no matter how much it hurts to read about it. And believe me, it hurts. Butler's story, his background, his past and present will gut you.

But Tania didn't have it easier and my God, do I have a major girl crush on her! She has to be my absolute fave female character ever. She's strong and no matter what, if she gets knocked on her ass, she doesn't stay down, she gets right back up. I cheered for her and Butler like crazy because they were made for each other; you can't find two characters that fit more together than these two. Don't get me wrong, I love the other couples too and we get quite a lot of scenes with the others, but these two? Definite relationship goals. Like soul-mates. Their story actually makes you believe in soul-mates, no matter how cynical you are. Like this girl, for example!

Okay, this became a long one. Here are a few favorite quotes that I loved and will forever remember:

"You deserve a man crowning you." --- Butler <---SEE why I love him so much? #RuinedbyButler

"Tall, muscular, blond, and blue-eyed, a sparkle of audacity and vulgar ever present in the lick of his gaze. Every girl's wet dream." --- my dirty Adonis and my dream guy!

In conclusion, yes, I LOVED IT, I'm giving it 5+++ stars, I cannot wait to get the paperback to pet it and get it signed, and I cannot recommend it enough. You'd be missing out if you were to pass this book. Pure awesomeness. I want to thank the author for the copy given in exchange for my honest review. It was my absolute pleasure.

About the Author
Cat Porter was born and raised in New York City, but also spent a few years in Europe, Texas and the suburbs along the way. As an introverted, only child, she had very big, but very secret dreams for herself. She graduated from Vassar College, was a struggling actress, an art gallery girl, special events planner, freelance writer, and had all sorts of other crazy jobs all hours of the day and night to help make those dreams come true. She has two children's books traditionally published under her maiden name. She now lives in Greece with her husband and three children, and freaks out regularly and still daydreams way too much. She is addicted to old movies, the History Channel, her iPad, her husband's homemade red wine, really dark chocolate, and her Nespresso coffee machine. Writing keeps her somewhat sane, extremely happy, and a productive member of society.
