One shy lost soul.

One silent lonely heart.

One love to save them both.

Life has never been easy for twenty-year-old Levi Carillo. The youngest of the Carillo boys, Levi is nothing like his older brothers. He isn’t dark in looks or intimidating to everyone he meets. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. Haunted by a crippling shyness and the tragic events of his past, Levi spends his days with his head buried in his books, or training hard for his college football team. Too timid to talk to girls, Levi stays as far away as possible and completely on his own… until he saves the life of a troubled pretty blonde, a troubled pretty blonde that might just be the exception to his rule.

Elsie Hall is homeless. Or at least that’s all anyone ever sees. Everyday is a fight for survival on the cold streets of Seattle, everyday a struggle to find food and keep warm. Alone in life—a life that’s dangerous and cruel—her will to keep going is an ever-losing battle. In her world of silence, Elsie has given up hope that her life will contain anything but constant struggle and pain… until the beautiful boy she has severely wronged comes to her rescue at precisely the right time.

5 STARS

Sweet Soul is Levi Carrillo’s story and the youngest Carrillo boy. This isn’t a standalone so make sure you at least read the Carrillo books first, Sweet Fall and Sweet Hope.

Levi is so different from his two brothers. He has had a hard life and suffered the same loss but he handles it differently than his brothers. My heart completely broke for him as you learn how deep his wounds are. Levi is now playing College ball and living with Lexie and Austin. He keeps to himself, studies, and doesn’t party. He isn’t interested in girls or typical college life because he is too shy.

“You are not your brothers, Levi. You are kind and shy, not hard and boisterous, ready to fight the world. You are my quiet baby boy. My sweet, sweet soul.”

Elsie’s life has been even worse and she is currently living on the streets and barely hanging on. Elsie and Levi cross paths when he catches her stealing from him and tries to stop her but she gets away. Levi finds Elsie when she is basically at the point of death and is determined to help her. I loved Elsie; she was so broken but sweet, kind, and brave.

”Words are the worst kind of ammunition, Levi. Physical pain fades in time, but bullets of cruelty forever penetrate the soul.”

To me Levi and Elsie’s story was perfect and I wouldn’t have wanted Ms. Cole to do anything differently. If you love stories about young lovers discovering each other for the first time you will love this. This is the story about two of the sweetest souls who find themselves with each other. They have never had a relationship, one afraid to be left again and the other afraid to trust and let anyone close. Sweet Soul is a heavy story filled with sadness but also lots of hope. While I did cry a lot reading Levi and Elsie story I smiled a lot too. This was just a beautiful story and I am sad that the series is done but it is one I will re-visit. Well Done.
