He’s only a friend.
I'll be honest. When I first read about Ellen in the previous book of this series, I'm Only Here For The Beard, I didn't like her.
At. All.
I thought she was cold, calculating, hurtful, and just an all around awful person. Strangely enough I never got that vibe about Jesse. Somehow I've always pictured him as just the guy who got caught up in the middle of a shit-storm if one was coming. Now that I've read this book I've found I was completely wrong about Ellen and pretty much spot on about Jesse!
I was looking forward to finding out what their past was and in this book we get that. And now I really like Ellen. I'll admit, in the first 20% of this book I think I even shed a few tears on her behalf for all that she was put through and how she seemed to be wrongfully having blame laid at her feet now as an adult. Jesse has never had it easy in life, but he has a great thing in his life; his son, Linc. He raised him all on his own when he was just a teenager himself all while having a crazed, drug induced ex-girlfriend always lurking in the shadows trying to make life Hell for him. Now that Linc is just shy of adulthood, and has a chance to turn into something really big, she sets her sights on using him....and Jesse won't have it! Through it all he and Ellen make peace with their past and move on to a promising future together.
I give this book 5 stars and was given it as an ARC for an honest review.
