Series: Thicker Than Blood
Release Date: August 9th 2015

Synopsis

It is the end of the world.
They call him Eagle, like the grand and beautiful bird that symbolizes freedom. During these dark times, when humanity is experiencing nothing but suffering, a man with such a powerful name should be a beacon of hope, yet he is anything but.
Her name is Autumn, but she hasn’t said this name or much of anything else in the four years since the fall of civilization. A shell of her former self, living wild in a cave at the bottom of a ravine, Autumn is accustomed to being alone. She prefers it, actually, especially when her only options for company either try to kill her, or worse, to lock her up inside their walls.
Captured by Eagle’s people, Autumn is suddenly thrust back into the land of the living, but she would hardly call it living. The community of Purgatory is full of sinners, the most evil of whom seem to have set their sights on her.
In an act born of anger and defiance, Eagle becomes Autumn’s unexpected savior, forcing these two solitary people into each other’s broken worlds. Neither knows quite what to make of the other, but one thing is certain. To survive Purgatory, they must learn how to rely on each other, a feat that could possibly teach them both how to live again.

Teaser

"There she was, lying on top of a filthy table, surrounded by rusty weapons, blades still covered in dried blood, and guns that needed to be cleaned and oiled. But her skin was pale and clean, a vivid contrast to what surrounded her. To the filth that surrounded everyone. She was good, a tiny slice of goodness surrounded by filth, and I wanted to be a part of that. No, fuck, I needed to be a part of that."

Book 1 gutted me. It was dark, twisted and really sad. When I encountered E in it, I wasn't his fan.

Well, book 2 is slightly different. Oh, it's still dark and twisted. It also has some sad parts. But still, different. While book 1 was about surviving out of a community, in the wild, where you had to protect yourself against zombies and other people, in this one, you pretty much have to be on constant look-out for thy neighbor. All's fair game, you can't trust anyone.

E... Eagle. He's a powerful and feared man. He's infamous in Purgatory and everyone knows not to cross him. He breaks rules he helped create. He has a nasty story, like most of the survivors of the apocalypse. This is what gutted me.

Our heroine, Autumn was on her own, in the wild, when she was caught and caged into Purgatory. Her deep-rooted fear of zombies and people made her come off as crazy.

Reading this book, with two characters broken beyond belief, you're skeptical. You're thinking, "How could they make it work?" Oh ye of little faith, just read the book and see.

Because I learned that no matter how twisted or broken a character is, if it's done right, they can be redeemed. And to not question my sanity, I just go with the flow hah!

So, if you like 'em dirty, twisted and sick as f*ck, read this book. It's still in the back of my mind, days later.

I decided to rate it 4.5 stars. Copy was given in exchange of honest review. Thank you.
