Synopsis

Stained with heartache and cursed with vengeance, a stone well lies on a nineteenth-century estate, waiting for the Stockton line to wish again.

When seventeen-year-old Lila Wayde's father loses his high-paying job in Las Vegas, the family relocates to a Pennsylvania estate bequeathed by an estranged aunt. Lila begins a new life there, one not corrupted by wealth and fake friends. She soon meets Ben, the groundskeeper's gritty grandson, and experiences the kind of happiness her life's been missing. But as she settles into the ancient house, she learns information about her ancestors and the old stone well that may make her wish she'd never come.

Ben Shadows has lost enough in life. So when Stockton Estate's owner, Janine, wills the land to her great-niece Lila, Ben fears for the fate of the property. He decides to find out Lila's intentions as the new owner, but his grandfather wants him to protect her from Stockton Estate's alleged curse. As Ben helps Lila dig through the estate's history, they grow closer than he ever intended. Now, along with concerns about the property and the reality of the curse, he struggles with feelings he can't ignore.

Will the secrets of Stockton Estate bring them together or will knowing the truth rip them apart?

When I stumbled upon this book, saw the cover and read the blurb, I was sold. I got curious. It sounded intriguing. A cursed well. Yes, definitely something I wanted to read about.

Our heroine, Lila - or LJ - was the quintessential mean girl that liked torturing and making fun of others. She was superficial, fake but also lonely. So very, very lonely. So, when her mom walks out on Lila, her brother and dad, things start falling apart. Due to her dad losing his job in Vegas, they needed to make a change. And that change came in the form of a will and an estate left behind for Lila by her great-aunt, Janine.

I love the evolution of the characters, throughout the book. Lila started out as a mean girl, but ended up doing a 180 like you wouldn't believe!

Now, about the hero. Ah, Ben! He lives on the estate with his grandfather, and they both take care of the grounds. Friendship and then more, blossoms between Lila and Ben but things are not what they seem; they get complicated by a curse and people's wishes that can be lethal.

With the clock ticking, a wild goose chase starts on finding a way to break the curse. Will they manage, before it's too late?

Yes, this book ends on a cliffhanger, so, after you read this one - I totally recommend and advise that you do - make sure to jump into book two, right away.

4.5 - 5 stars. I enjoyed it immensely and will have to check out other books by this author.

Synopsis

*This is the followup to The Line That Binds*

While searching for answers involving Stockton Estate's stone well, Ben Shadows and LJ Wayde discover one truth: the curse is real.

Unfortunately, that truth has LJ facing the same fate that's been tied to her bloodline for generations. The curse has given her the ability to help others conquer their greatest weaknesses, but it comes with a torturous price. As the rush of helping people starts to outweigh the pain of the consequences, LJ moves toward acceptance. She considers it a gift, a chance to make up for the way she treated people in the past.

Ben pushes on to find an end to the curse despite LJ's reluctance. He fears the real consequences are far worse than LJ's current symptoms, possibly linked to her Aunt Janine's memory loss. His love drives his need to protect her, even if it means hiding the next piece of the well's mystery.

When LJ finds what Ben has kept secret, she may never forgive him.

Will he lose her heart before he can save her mind?

**Recommended mature YA for mild language and mild sexual content.**

I immediately started this after finishing book one and I devoured it. I couldn't put it down. Along with the characters, I wanted to know more about the curse, I wanted to know if there was a way to break it.

Things are not getting better for LJ, the curse is affecting her more and more each day, with each wish she grants but she can't stop herself from making others happy. I admit, I wanted to shake her for this, because she was not helping the situation.

Ben's desperate to find a way to stop the curse from doing what it did to LJ's Aunt Janine, but it's hard when you know next to nothing about the curse, how and why it was caused.

The saying, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" fits this book perfectly. Because love can make or break someone.

I was on the edge of my seat and my heart broke for these kids, for their struggle to stay together when everything was falling apart.

And literally, toward the end of the book, help comes from the most unexpected person and ah, what they find out made me want to jump up and down, because OF COURSE! But I have to admit, I didn't see it coming.

So, if you're into mysteries and cursed wells, secrets and YA, you should totally give these books a try. I'm definitely going to reread them both.

5 stars. No extra comments, words needed.
